The more I think about the more I like this.

And if Kyper is even close with his estimation of Zaitsev, Johnsson and a 1st for Pietrangelo, definitely do that too. Defense would be vastly improved and the offense would still be there.

First 1/2 we were, if you’d stop picking the ticks out of your fur and watch the game.

We doubled their scoring chances in the 1st 2 periods. Carry on though

Leafs played pretty well, Nylander karma biting him and Dubas at the moment

Maybe so. But remember the old saying- a Hutch in hand is worth two in Sparks in the Bush.

Can't really argue too much with your ratings on the keeper and defence. I might have given Dermott a C. His game of late hasn't been too good. I'd give the coaching staff a C at best and the Management a D (the Nylander thing is a distaster). His market value has dropped substantially and he is significantly overpaid for what he brings to the team. He is showing to be more of a 4-5 mil player at best. Right now Nylander is barely a top 9 forward on his own team, never mind a top 10 paid player in the League this year. That is on Dubas.

You spoke a lot of crack is my opinion, 1st 2 periods we had lots of great chances and could have been up.

Fell apart in the 3rd.

Agreed. You need conclusive evidence and it wasn't.
- Aaron_85

The stick wasn’t even over the line...pretty conclusive IMO

How about Wee Willie Kneeender learn how to stretch a bit - (frank)

I don't understand. Mattsie said they had to bring their A game and then they didn't. That doesn't seem possible.

They didn't give 110%

They didn't take it one shift at a time.

They didn't focus on doing the little things right.

What rhe hell am I supposed to believe, Aethsie?

All in all, still a decent game. Good measure against a veteran team that is deeper than last year. We need to continue playing hard like the last game as well. Win more than our fair share if we do. Need to remember this is a very young core. Gonna take some time. A flurry of trades this year won't improve us a lot. Stay the course gang.

This. Marleau is off the books after next season- use that space then to make a change, and look to guys stepping up from the Marlies.

No need to gut young forward talent for defense now.

Absolutely. But people here are bashing their head against the wall still thinking that the Leafs having all their money and talent invested in their forwards is the way to go. Reality is, the "work" that needs to be done is the team needs to shift that offensive surplus to the blueline.
- Unholy_Goalie

I don't think anyone routinely says that for any reason other than to get you spinning. Does the defence need improvement? Without question. I don't think that needs to resolved by big game hunting as you keep blowing your trumpet for. Improving on/replacing Hainsey and Ozhiganov would go a long way in elevating the blue line, without gouging the strength of the team.

Marleau getting molested after the puck is gone. No call.

Can’t blame the refs, though.

- Steven_Seagull

Well if their 15 million dollar offer-sheet superstar could stay onside maybe the would be able to beat a team once in a while.

The problems is Mattzers isn't Canadian.

He doesn't have an "eh" game.

Oh, and they worried about what Nashville was doing and didn't concentrate on playing their game.

We gotta take a swing THIS season.

We don't need to gut anything, but this team is ridiculously soft and will be bitch slapped in the playoffs if it's not adequately addressed.

Guys like Jay Beagle are the types of targets that should be pursued.

Agree. We just have to think back to some of the desperation trades we made prior to the play-offs in the '90's. Gave up draft picks for "really good" veteran players. Yup. And how many cups did we win then?
