Also, if the price is low enough on Pietrangelo (as per Sportsnet), then why not both? Rather have more talent and money on the blueline because they got plenty of it upfront already.

You also have to remember that Gardiner is a UFA and needs to be replaced. Hamilton, at his age, cost and skill set, can do that.
