Just catching up on some reading, did not know it was this bad, from ESPN:
Schneider has lost 18 consecutive decisions (0-15-3) since his last win on Dec. 27, 2017. That's the longest winless streak by a goaltender in the shootout era (via Elias Sports Bureau). So, in summary: Boy, could the Devils use Bo Horvat right now.

Are there six defensemen in the first round the Devils can have a stab at? Its pathetic to be this unable to clear the zone, win in the corners, breakout pass, stop the cycle. Everything about their game in their own end is virtually terrible.

Not sure an offensive asset changes anything, other than to use as a marker to lure a solid defenseman.

Shero is no stranger to huge contracts. Throw it at Hall and Karlsson in the off season.

Usually trading away the best player in a multi-player/pick trade is not a good trade, but the Sabre's shed a ton of cap getting rid of O'Reilly, and added serious assets to their prospect pool. They got Thompson (drafted 1st round 2016), a 1st which is looking promising whether it is this draft, or differed to the following year, a 2nd, and sobotka who is a good 3 line player. That's quite a bit of affordable talent, and then they replaced O'Reilly offense with a low risk, 1 year contract to Skinner which is proving to be a great move. That trade boosted the Sabres both immediately, and certainly going forward with high end, low cost entry-level contracts.
