Are there six defensemen in the first round the Devils can have a stab at? Its pathetic to be this unable to clear the zone, win in the corners, breakout pass, stop the cycle. Everything about their game in their own end is virtually terrible.
Not sure an offensive asset changes anything, other than to use as a marker to lure a solid defenseman.
Shero is no stranger to huge contracts. Throw it at Hall and Karlsson in the off season. - ElvisLemieux
Sure we need more talent on D, but at how about replacing Nesreddine with Stevens. This defensive system blows. Goaltending would help too. What a goat (frank). |

Didnt Stevens already assist us in the Lou days?
You sure he'll be good? Gretzky sucked as coach.
Also, Broberg is the only option for us if we want D in the draft. Brooooooberrrg. |

Stevens did a good job with our defense as an assistant coach and he also did a good job as co-head coach with Adam Oates. After Ray Ray let him go to bring in Shero and Nesreddine, Stevens spent a year with Minnesota and they had an outstanding defense while he was there. Obviously the Wild had a lot of talent to work, but he was considered to be very successful.
Could he turn this puppy poo soft D into a respectable squad? Who knows. But it seems like there is more downside in keeping with what isn't working then bringing him in.

that ROR trade was really awful. Sabres traded a first line center for spare parts. only reason nobody talks about it is because the Blues are so awful. - Pomegrant
lol this comment is the highlight from this blog. ROR was and is a cancer, every team he joins craps the bed. Thompson is a big kid with tons of skill. He has the potential to be a 25 goal scorer a year. If you watched the game yesterday you should have easily seen his talent on display. He hasn't had the most gifted line mates this year and still needs to learn to finish, but the kid has talent.
Also with ROR gone it gives Mittelstadt a chance to be a 2nd line center instead of breaking into the NHL in a checking 3rd line center role. The trade worked out for Buffalo, even more so with Berglund gone. Immediate and long term cap relief. |

Bowen Byram looks legit too. I’m still hoping for a top pick, which this year looks loaded at forward. |

Sorry Pom's, I normally agree with you, but he is right. ROR is a beast0.75 ppg is good. But if your Buffalo, Adding a very good 1st and 2nd rd draft pick, plus a quality prospect (Thompson, another 1st), and a great two way 3rd liner, while freeing up cap space to sign Skinner, who at 1 year younger, is 1 goal away from the Richard leader, is a pretty huge swing for the club. Whether Stl Deferres their 1st to next season, or not, Buffalo gains high end, cheap contracts to aid their young roster. This is so much better for the Sabres, than keeping ROR at 7.5M till he's 22. No knock on RoR, the guy is good. This just fits the Sabres needs far better. |

We're having a different conversation if the Blues don't have such bad luck and are at the bottom of the league and the Sabres don't have such good luck and much lower in the standings, where they will regress to. Skinner is a great story but he's shooting 21.5% where his career shooting% is 10.7.
I don't buy the whole "trade my good player so I can free up cap space by taking on the same amount in contracts back" angle. They have a lot of money spent on bad players but still have a lot of space next year. I don't think cap space was ever the issue. |
