Hindsight is always 20/20 but I never understood why Brett Kulak wasn't appreciated by management. I think he would have fit well as a third pairing left shot defender at a decent contract. |

I don't have a problem with either I like the youth for sure. Valimaki is injured for an undisclosed period of time (seems long term at this point) and Kylington has been fine by me (a few blunders to be expected) but as mentioned in the article he is playing less minutes each game and doesn't seem to have the coaches trust. |

He pinched on a play a couple games ago and the opposing team scored. I think I noticed his icetime dip after that |

I would just like to mention Flames have 4 50 point players. First team to do so at the 45 game mark since 1996 Penguins.
Keep it going boys!

He reminds me of TJ Brodie, especially in his younger days. Great skater but sometimes gets into trouble because of it. He'll learn but he may need a bit more seasoning in the AHL. |

Hey - it sounds like Stone is likely going to be made available. Considering this is looking like a year when the Flames should be all in on the cup, what do you think of this:
To Ott: Kylington, Dube, 3rd round pick 2019, conditional unprotected 1st in 2020 (The condition is if Stone resigns after July 1 with Flames)
To Calg: Stone + 5th round pick 2019
Other thought is to remove the 2019 third and add in Frolik instead.

No way I would give up Dube and Kylington for a rental. I think both will be every day NHLers, not sure where Dube ends up fitting in when he's ready but Kylington I'm sure will be a top 4 dman. I don't think that we should mess too much with the chemistry on this team, if there is an opportunity to improve the 3rd and 4th line then have a look for sure but don't give too much. I would like to see Lazar brought up to help the 3rd and 4th line, I think he could add a spark. |

Fair points, Kulak is a good depth guy on pretty much any team - I think he dug into the negotiation a little farther than management liked/expected.
Was glad to see that the kids got a shot and have generally played pretty well. I think Kylington was the guy we all expected to need another year, and Prout isn't a good enough 7 when a guy like Valimaki goes down (as proven by the fact that Kylington is currently the regular 6). |

Tend to agree, as much as I love Stone as a player and a full season option, that's a lot to pay for a guy who will play 20 games + playoffs.
So rarely do rentals truly pay dividends, I'd rather see Neal flipped for him (in some way, if not direct) and go for the re-sign if he's comfy with riding 2nd line for a few years. |

Why would you think Lazar after 40 games in the a is any better than the useless piece he was here? Fuk that, if Stone is available why wouldn’t we go all in? Don’t want to miss an opportunity that we might not get back.
Frolik, Kylington, Dube..... what ever it takes. |

Normally, I would not want to give up such high end prospects - but this could be Calgary's year - Stone could put them over the top - plus other teams (i.e. Vegas, Winnipeg, Nashville) will all likely be adding before the deadline. We are now one of those teams that have to keep up if we think we can do damage this year. Ott will want youth and/or picks mostly, then maybe an NHL roster player also. I think Frolik, Dube, & Kylington might get it done. Conditional 1st if Stone resigns. This would not mess with the chemistry on the team as Frolik looks like he might be on the way out anyway, Dube is in Stockton, and Kylington will be replaced by Valimaki after his injury is done. Also, one of our youth on defence will need to be traded or we will lose them to Seattle in the 2020 expansion draft.

It’s because the guys on the radio are saying the Flames are looking for a left shot depth D man. |

I liked Kulak in a 3rd pairing role, unfortunately Lazar sucks. We need Valamaki back and Stone could work as a rotational d-man going into playoffs. |
