Should probably worry more about a capable back up before we start worrying about a depth d man.
Sure it was a sprain and not compound fracture? F()cking hell. - jessehub
High ankles take forrrevvveerrrrr to heal properly, but fair concern! |

Yeah very true. They take longer to heal than breaks a lot of the time. I tore my acl playing rugby one year and was back playing before my buddy who had a similar sprain injury to Vali. |

Interesting post by Darren Haynes...
Calgary with 4 players with 50+ points...
One reader commented on them being top heavy. His response...
Forwards with 30+ pts on last five Cup champs: Wsh (6), Pit (8), Pit (6), Chi (7), LA (5). Flames on pace for six.
Forwards with 20+ pts on last five Cup champs: Wsh (10), Pit (12), Pit (8), Chi (9), LA (8). Flames on pace for nine.
Theyโre not far off. Itโs a top-heavy league..

Add Stone to the mix and that puts the Flames on par.
What happens if one of the fantastic four gets injured? Oppurtunity is there, why wouldn't Tre be interested. Ottawa wants a 1st, as much as I hate to see us give up another it's probably going to be 25-30th, so Klimchuk Porier range. Stone comes to play with his brother, signs an extension. |

You're crazy if you think 30 games + playoffs of Stone is worth Kylington, Dube, and a 1st. No way in Hell is that worth it for us. Rentals hardly ever work out and that price is way too high for a guy we lose at the end of the year.
We need to worry about a backup goaltender way before we worry about foward depth which is already for the most part fine.
Just because a guy is a big name doesn't mean he's a guy we need. If we're going forward shopping it's fir bottom 6 guys, not top 6 guys. |

Where did i say that?
As far as a backup goalie, who are you suggesting? Gillies should be brought up and given some games before they go out and get another. 12 games in the NHL is not enough to determine weather or not he's a capable backup. Look at Rittich |

Everyone needs to relax on these huge TDL deals. I know, including myself, that this might be a time we go all in because of this lightning in a bottle chemistry Gaudreau Monahan & Lindholm have. These guys are young & signed for several more years.
As for a backup, really, who is out there? Who would take Smith & would Smith waive &I dont think Treliving would do that to Smith. The norm is that a good backup has a .500 record for the team. Smith is what 12-9. We have 40 games left, I expect Riitch to play 30 of them & Smith 10 sprinkled in there. Why would we give up assets for 10 games. We need to see if a #1 goalie is on the shopping list next summer or if Riitch truly is the man & that intel will come when the playoff race gets full gear & we play desperate teams game after game. I think Riitch is our man, but this 2nd half & playoffs will tell us all we need to know going forward.
We need a bit of grit on the 4th line, I guy that will fight, can play 10 minutes & even drive the opposition nuts & take a little bit of heat off of Tkachuk. We need toughness on the backend too. Would love to get Bortozo out of St Louis, wouldnt be opposed to a cheap acquisition cost of Bieska for the 2nd half here too. |
