Matthews' injury could have been a blessing in disguise.
Both will probably cost 20 million combined though. - Unholy_Goalie

It's getting harder and harder to think Marner will get less than 10. He's the best player on the team on a consistent basis. He does it all. |

He should be there over Tavares. Maybe the Leafs pulled some strings so he didn't make the All-Star game so it'll be cheaper to sign him. |

He should be, absolutely. Heck, if not for the fan vote you could argue at him being there over Matthews.
Still, I don't expect that the ASG makes it any cheaper to sign him... maybe he plays with a chip on his shoulder now and puts up more points? |

Awards and all-star game appearances are all things his agent can use as leverage (the small amount that he has as an RFA). An arbitrator would view those things as worthy of more money too. |

It's a stupid thing. Put the best players together. The problem hasn't been the players on the PP. The problem is what they're doing is predictable. Change the play, change where they are but keep the players the same. Except Kadri. Replace him with either Kapanen or Nylander. - Unholy_Goalie
16/91 and 29/34 are two dangerous tandems, and the rest of the forwards are no slouches either, so this forces a team to choose whether to put their best PKers out against one or the other.
Right now, guys like Tavares are barely getting any touches, while Marner is really only potent as a setup guy as his shot doesn't really frighten anyone, so teams are collapsing and taking away the seam pass and basically daring him to shoot.
With Tavares on the half wall in Matthews' spot, he can also run the PP as he did his entire career with NYI.
Spread it out, more touches for everyone; 1A and 1B can compete for ice-time. |

They could, yes.
I think that they've just been informed in what happens when you hold out for a little more rather than take a team-friendly deal though.
He'll get paid, and get paid fairly - nothing more or less than a spot at the ASG would have gotten him. |

We get like three weeks of solid discussion and engagement, and all is good.
Then some people have their ban lifted, and it goes silent.
Coincidence....???? |

They learned you get more money.
They also learned that Marner (and Matthews) have way more stats behind their value and even the outside risk of other teams throwing them an offer. |

Marner will not get as much as Matthews, because he plays on the wing and doesn't have faceoff and defensive zone duties. Matthews will probably get overpaid, because he's the face of the franchise and probably the next Captain. I believe that Marner is more talented in the offensive end, but Matthews is on the cover of fashion magazines. The only fly in the ointment will be Marner's parents who've already interfered in contract negotiations. I get sick of players who have great offensive talent, but have yet to win a playoff round expecting top dollar in comparison to players who've actually won playoff rounds. This should be one criteria when the Leafs negotiate with the Marner and Matthews camps. Willy can go pound salt in Carolina or Philadelphia. |

Snowflakes such as yourself are so adorable. Even more so when you cry for bans for people who aren't exactly like you. You need safe spaces and echo chambers that reverberate your ideas and views or else you get all pissy.
Carry on.

Wow, you post for us here. How nice of you to take a break from replying to white supremacists on twitter. We're honoured.
Maybe we can get some opinions on your boycott of Red Lobster for pulling adverts of Tucker? Or why you seem distracted by "proven liar" AOC, but okay with Trump? One of these things is not like the other! |

I don't give too many (frank)s about people agreeing with me or not. There are plenty of people who I disagree with but respect.

Marner can play defense and could play center if required too. He kills penalties, he drives plays, he's consistent, he shows up most nights. He could get the same as Matthews, he's really high up there in overall scoring. |

I care that you still get the platform to spout your BS, but as for content, I can't wait for you to be gone permanently.
Sucks for you that this is pretty much the only thing that counts in your life. |
