simple truth is that - apart from adding tavares, which was obvious - dubas hasn't done anything significant to make leafs intrinsically better.
i like lindholm.
i think ozhiganov is a good add.
but those were low risk moves (considering the financial strength of organisation).
bad decisions on goalies.
bad decision on nylander.
and really nothing significant done.. - plantheparade
Maybe you should pick another team to Cheer for / or against... whatever. |

You are right he should have probably gutted the roster and made significant changes to the second place overall team....SMH |

He added a superstar center....and had a bunch of young players he needed to evaluate in Kap, Johnnson, Dermott, ect.
Plenty of time for him to improve but now he has a better understanding of what he needs then he did in the offseason. You need to relax. |

Thats your opinion, not fact. - Archaic
It's a difficult statement to justify one way or the other. Given that Nylander is currently not able to demonstrate progress in his game, means that the argument from either side is hard to prove or disprove.
Based on the trajectory he was showing . . . let's say he was a 70pt guy this year . . . that would put him as a top 2 guy on a lot of non-playoff teams. Detroit, Carolina, Montreal, the Islanders, the Rangers, maybe the Devils, Blues, Coyotes, Kings . . .
Realistically he's a top 3/4 guy on good teams, which is where he should be on the Leafs.
Once he finds his game again, and continues his development, I'd suspect that in a couple of years this whole blip in Nylander's career is forgotten about and people will love him. |

I tend to agree with everything you stated. Hoping he turns it around soon. |

Why don't the 'experts' around here actually work for an NHL team? |

Get the hell out of here with this type of thinking, common sense has no place in this forum! - Archaic
It’s so frustrating listening to some people on here. Like (frank).
TB had a weakness last season. Their defense was bad. They realized that and fixed that at the deadline with Mcdonaugh.

The UGly one doesn't actually cheer for the Leafs, he just poops on them and has an odd insistence of what they should do. |

Have you ever talked to a Hab fan.....no they're not allowed to lose.
They expect their team to go 60-8-12 like the 76 Habs or it's a lost season. |

He'd certainly be on the top PP unit of all those teams, and get more minutes. Which all the players on those teams benefit from by being on bad to mediocre teams. - Archaic
I’m really not that worried about him. I don’t even think he’s looked bad and with a few bounces and assists it wouldn’t even be a talking point. Like the way he walks into the zone and helps start plays going. Thought Johnsson Matthews Nylander were very good last game. |

Last couple games he's played better for sure, before that he couldn't seem to get a handle on the puck. Still over payed IMO but what do you now, just cheer and hope i'm wrong. |

Leafs have a good team. I believe they are 2nd in winning percentage...or 3rd. I haven’t checked in a few days.
Lots of time to improve and add at the deadline. And IMO when you are a contender and have 20+ million in deadline cap space over the Lighting and Caps where they have about 500k a piece...you will absolutely use that advantage.
I think people will be surprised with what Dubas does this deadline. |

Honestly, I think it's more the fans and the media that do that.
I think all athletes think they can pick it up faster than they do, but when everyone else is in mid-season form, and you're not only shaking off your off-season rust, you've also spent an additional two months not being in game shape, you're WAY behind the 8-ball. I wouldn't be surprised if Nylander comparatively sucks for another 15 games. It's one thing to miss training camp, it's another to have your training camp while everyone else around is in peak form/condition. - Monkeypunk
There is simply no excuse for not being in game-shape. None.
I get that your timing will be off. Your skating will probably be rusty too, as skating with the Modo Juniors (or whom-the-frank-ever) won't be the same as NHL games.
But conditioning? No franking excuse.
Get Daddy Nylander to hire a personal trainer (full-time, one on one), and get him to work your franking arse off - every single franking day.
He should have arrived in the dressing room after his holdout as the fittest guy on the team - it shouldn't have even been close.
