They won't be eligible will they? I think players have a minimum NHL games played etc?
- annoyed

* All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits.

* All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward protection limits.

In addition, all NHL teams must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the draft:

* One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons.

* Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons.

* One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list.

Nope.

It's "professional experience" or some sort of weird phrasing like that. If you have an NHL contract, you are eligible.

As an example, Leafs lost Leipsic to Vegas.

http://www.hockeydb.com/i...s/pdisplay.php?pid=130673

He had 6 games of NHL experience at the time.

Damn, will they both have more then 2 years by the draft?

* All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).

The bolded is actually worded wrong (I think you pulled it off the NHL website).

It's years with NHL contracts - # of games don't actually matter.

As per my earlier post, see Leipsic, Brendan.

Yes.

Basic rule: Anyone on an NHL 50-contract list this year will be eligible to be plucked by Seattle.

Anyone drafted in 2019 draft or later will be safe.

Seattle draft looming - we can only protect 3 defencemen.

So if you consider Rielly and Dermott to be our guys moving forward, they are going to have decide between Lillybust and Sandin.

For that reason, I'm not opposed to the idea of trading Lillybust.

- Atomic Wedgie

I am not either.

If they were to acquire some sort of D...they would have their D to protect in the draft.

Then, as the Leafs are the only contender that can trade for Stones contract without retaining or sending salary back...if Ottawa comes at you with Lilybust for Stone what do you say?

We were talking about physical conditioning, which is something you don't get in a game. You need to use a gym for that.

As far as reflexes, getting to know your linemates, etc., etc. - yeah, you actually need to play to get that. Which is why his Leaf teammates are two months ahead of him and he might not be able to completely catch up this season.

- TrashPanda

Yep, I mean I get why people are frustrated. At this point he could be doing better.

But this isn’t the real Nylander and I think we need to at least realize that.

Damn tempting, but I'm wondering if our resources are better spent elsewhere.

Can he play left wing?

Well, I think getting a D is more important.

But who knows. Maybe they trade a good forward for a D with term...then they trade Lilybust for a high end rental forward.

Duchene and Skinner sound good to me too

He shoots right. Make him an RHD, and put him with Gardiner.

Couple Stone's takeaways with Gardiner's giveaways, and you might create a cyclical vortex that could destroy the universe as we know it.

I have no intention of trying. Racoons are smart, after all.

That would definitely (frank) someone on a non boot drive.

Leafs handed the preds thier hat last game snd ran into a hot goalie in this game. It happens. Not frightened at all by preds. Honestly. We need 2 d. And that should all depend on cost. Hainsey was not signed as top pairing d. Give the guy a break. With regards to trades all these teams are playing the long game. The leafs are at a tough point in thier development. They have a chance but how good of one we all got to ask. Dubas needs a steady hand here and needs to be smart. And we as fans need to fans and just watch and be patient.
