No. I mean why isn't he doing the thing that actually changes the shape of the lights on the scoreboard - putting the puck in the net.

After all, as you say, that's what WINS hockey games.

See here’s the difference.

Beaulieu has captilized on others generated chances. Thompson has been the one generating them with people being unable to capitalize.

That will absolutely change with Eichel and Skinner (obviously)

He has at least two whiffs I can think of on opportunities exactly as you describe for Beaulieu.

He's got a hell of a shot. So did Ales Kotalik.

So does Armia

The same thing as every other Sabres forward has done without eichel.

Not scored goals.

But tagecakes looks fancy . Fancy scores fan points.

Tage has become a presence on ice in my opinion .
Stepped up without the franchise guy playing
Tage is now being rewarded by management for seeing the same thing as us fans. (Some extra effort/fancy moves)

Um....

This is hard an interesting angle?

Hard shot doesn't always equal goals,
Good shots score good goals

It’s everyones opinion besides 2-3 people at this point.

Kid will be absolutely fine when he has a shred of talent around him.

Putting his good shot aside, Thompson can actually stick-handle and enter the zone with the puck. I had no idea he was so good with the puck. Plus his condor like wing span is very noticeable on the forecheck. He is making the opposition's d-man rush their passes when he applies pressure. Anyway, I think he has been one of the most noticeable Sabres (in a positive way) over the past 8 games or so. While his shot is arguably his greatest weapon, he is bringing a lot more to the team and game IMO.

Free Thompson.

I believe you do.

This whole thing started because of another ridiculous Fitz post where he says to put Thompson on the line to “see what the kids got”. Like he wasn’t one of the three stars two of the previous three games.

Which is weird because three weeks ago he wasn’t sure if Thompson “earned” it .

So instead of saying that Thompson has earned it with some promising play, it’s now just a hey let’s just see if he can do anything, like the kid hasn’t played well and is now Joel Armia.

Fitz is just an open book.

In general, that’s fair, but IMO, it’s asisnine if anyone says he hasn’t played well lately

Kid was absolutely awful his first 15 games here.

He’s made quite the turnaround

I'm super excited for him. These kids need a shot. If Thompson can gel with Eichel, and Reinhart can produce without him, we might really have something.
- jcragcrumple

Sheary has to produce, no question about it. Reinahrt drove play really well against the Devils at the tune of 76%CF. I think it’s the highest total of a Sabres player this season. Pretty crazy.

I’ve had predisposed bias towards Reinhart’s play and he’s starting to prove me wrong. I’m not afraid to admit it. The question is when Thompson is a 20 goal scorer in this league will you admit you were wrong ? Or will your hate of the trade continue to blind you until the end of time ?

Literally 1 week ago

Sheary and Okposo are top 6 forwards, Mittelstadt is holding them back (Mittelstadt replaced ROR, so he takes a shot at Mitts)

Yesterday- Thompson needs to score despite his center being.......Sobotka, so Thompson isn’t really playing well (Shot at Thompson)

It’s an open book I tell ya

Our argument over this lasted like 3 pages in a previous blog. I understand. I even went as far to say that Okposo and Sheary wouldn’t be top 6 forwards in Rochester but he didn’t recognize it as satire. Although Sheary at best is an average 3rd liner and Okposo should be retired and I stand by that sentiment.

Alright, this is super nerdy, but I've charted all of Reinhart's goals over his career. I've divided them into 5 categories:

BGOS - Beat goalie on shot
TIP
EN
TAP - tap in. This is a bit subjective. It's defined as a goal scored with the goalie out of position. It's a subtle difference compared to BGOS. It's being alone in a "soft area"
