His average is 11.4, and when he takes more shots, his average goes up. So if he continues on a 270 shot pace, we would expect him to shoot over that average, because that's what he does when he shoots more (with one outlier season - last year). Aside from last year, when he takes over 255 shots, his shooting percentage is above his career average. And it's not a sample size error. We have 8 years of data.

Of course he isn't going to shoot 21% forever, but considering he has shot 12% 13% and 14% it's stands to reason that with Eichel, and by taking 270-280 shots, he will be a consistent 40 scorer. The numbers show that

- jcragcrumple

He had more shot attempts in 2014-2015 when he scored 18 goals than he did the next season when he scored 28.

2011-2012 he had the 4th highest shooting pace of his career, managed a 26 goal pace.

2012-2013 was on pace for a ridiculous 554 shot attempts (490 the highest actual number he's ever hit), but only a 25 goal pace.

The problem is that ALL of his seasons are outliers.

37 goals - 281 shots
33 goals - 274 shots
28 goals - 254 shots

Volume + an uptick of his shooting percentage from 11.4 to 14 = 40 goals. You can say he's only shot 14+ percent one time, but he's also shot 12+ and 13+

Playing with an elite puck distributor who allows him to shoot 280 times a year should see him shoot around 14%

That's 39 goals. All of that is not only plausible, but likely. And that's conservative imo

Also, an elite puck distributor like Eichel can set up the type of passes that throw goalies off of their balance, where it becomes an easier shot for a finisher like Skinner. Many of his goals come from around the goal mouth, like Reinhart's. Skinner is a better shooter, of course, but having guys like Reinhart and Eichel set him up for the 'and ones' makes him look maybe artificially better. Combine that with luck, and his shooting % and career mark in goals may reach a new high.

Yeah, I think if the guy has had seasons of 12, 13 and 14% without Eichel, it's realistic to assume he should get more of those tap-ins you're talking about, and we could expect a shooting percentage around 14%. If he consistently can take around 270-280 shots (which is not asking for a career high), there's your formula for a consistent 40 goals. Maybe Eichel can even help him take more shots. It's a very plausible path

You’re a bartender...you’ve said and heard it all.

I come on here to read the opinions of depressed suburban fathers and how they cling to a local hockey team. It’s helps me realize that’s not the life I want to live.

Instead this has turned into you being enormously annoying, stubborn, and forced. It’s just a hockey team in a dumpy city.

At least Beady knows he is off the rails, you’re a bartender that talks/types too much. You’re opinions are not insightful or creative. Why do you voluntarily come to a place where majority of people don’t value your words?

I truly do not understand this Sabres logic: Did a guy score a goal the other night? Quick, better bury him on the 4th line to get his confidence up.

Agreed. And as the German said, make Mitts/Sheary/Rhino line #2. Hoping for a mid-game adjustment by Housley.

Unfortunately Smith is a victim of old-school hockey thinking - re: we can't sit a lousy, high-paid vet like Pommer or Okposo because it would be a slap in their face. This attitude prevails throughout the NHL. Unless a young guy is a truly exceptional talent like McDavid, Marner or Eichel, young guys don't get a chance at the expense of putrid vets.

The management team knows what they have in cj.
Let's see how he reacts to being sent down.

Does he go on a scoring run?
Does he cry about being sent down or work his way back up?

Housley won’t scratch Pomminvile or Okposo we both know that. My ideal lineup would look like this. Except the bottom two lines get identical icetime. Erod has looked good on our 4th line (which has really been our proverbial 2nd line). If Housley had the stones to sit one of the vets which he doesn’t. Would be nice to add a top 6 LW/C to bump Sheary down to Smith’s spot.

Management team should be trying to make the big club as good as possible. CJ scored, that should give him at least another game.

You are arguing what exactly? That management team knows CJ, but also doesn't know CJ because they want to screw with his emotions and see if he handles it like a man? This is the process?

When Housley gets fired and I replace him, here is what I am going to do (assuming existing players):

Skinner/Eichel/Thompson
Sheary/Mittelstadt/Reinhart
Smith/EROD/Pommer
Girgensons🔸Larsson🔸Sobotka

PK #1 = Larsson/Girgs
PK #2 = EROD/Jack

In my perfect world I would probably bring Bustlander up and plug him in where Sheary sits on line 2 and move Sheary to Pommer's spot on line 3. Then you would actually have 3 lines that has speed and can potentially score with the 4th line being a shutdown line.

I like it. I wouldn't be shocked to see this line-up as the season nears close and we are entering the playoffs.
