I also think what changed a little was the thought was the GM and Coaching change would get them moving forward. Start getting some wins but really this team just couldn't do anything right. So even though you want moves your just not there.

I feel the Flyers could be buyers and sellers. Buying would be a move that isn't just for this year but a move that is to really help next year when this team needs to really push forward.

- J35Bacher

The most interesting thing is that they fired the GM for not making "moves that aren't there."

Its either that or people dont include the picks at all and view it as Lehtera for Schenn. SMH

The funniest thought popped in my head thinking about the people who are upset about "only" getting a 6th and a prospect for him.

There is a good chance there is someone out there yelling "They never gave Weal a chance, they kept playing him with crappy linemates, he had to play with JvR". How ironic and hilarious is that.

It's the Jason Akeson speech. He's a play driver! He has a 54% Corsi! The Flyers blew it! LOL

The magical myth of Morin continues. For all you believers, “Yes someday he will come”.
- Djapana

His day should have come years ago and is part of the reason Hexy isn’t here anymore. He favored mediocre veterans over our young prospects so unfortunately each year they just got a year older. I would call Morin a bust but i won’t for two reasons: he was never given a chance in the NHL and he never should have been drafted that high in the first place, you can blame Holmgren and Hexy for that. It was called a reach that day and one commenter said he would have been available at the same spot in the second round. Yet, he never stood a chance cause he was never given one, but ironically the recently departed Weal was given a hundred chances. Phil Myers no chance, Amac a million chances. Vorobyev was given the boot after a few mediocre games but yet Weise and Lehtera can do whatever they want...no consequences. Don’t kid yourself, Hart would be in the minors for years if the old regime was here.

Gotta love a franchise that fires Hextall only to hire a guy who's first trade is Hextall like.

What a waste of paper this deal is. A 6th rounder and a beer league hoser. Plan the parade.

I don't know.

We don't know if at the draft something was brought up but Hextall didn't do. Like did someone offer a 1st for Simmonds then or something. There obviously were other things that caused that.

Without really being in the know a lot of it is just speculating. Maybe the move they hoped for was the coach or coaches being fired and Hextall didn't want to?` I don't know. Just seems like there was more then just moves.

In regards to Lehtera....I doubt he even plays a game for the Flyers the rest of this season. I have a hard time seeing him play while this goes on. I think it's just a matter of time till he is somehow waived to terminate his contract because of the charges.

I'm quite sure that Hextall got trade offers that he didn't do. Not sure what that proves. I don't think it's a lot of speculation to know what the NHL trade market was and is now.

Not arguing that. Mainly I think, even though they said it was about inaction, I don't think that was all of it.

And right now the results weren't backing up his inaction so you couldn't spin it as it was working.

Holmgren isn't a dumby. Lots of people talk about him being a pretty smart hockey guy. I think he knows what the market is and was.

I normally would agree with you that Holmgren is a smart hockey guy, but in this case, he was pretty dumb in my opinion. Scott was even dumber. Dumb and dumber.

Speculation can abound but the bottom line is that the roster construct and coaching choices were Hextall’s. It didn’t work and he’s gone as a result. He did some nice things but was far from perfect.

It's pretty obvious that coaching was not the issue with this team. I also think that if this team has any future, it's Hextall that put it together. No GM is perfect.

To be fair I am not putting a lot of stock into Gordon, sure it's another coach with the same results, but they could of put you behind the bench with the same results...does that mean coach MJL is not the issue?

I’m not really sure that Gordon has had an opportunity to install his own system or work out his line combos so I’m not ready to concede that coaching wasn’t an issue. I also don’t think the argument that Hextall laid a foundation and yet needed to go are mutually exclusive.

I don't know.

A lot depends on between now and the start of next season. If they go out and get Quenneville and are able to revamp the roster a little then i can't say it was dumb if they make the playoffs and go on a run.

All i know if that Hextall himself said the team needed to take a step forward and they didn't and actually players look like they regressed. You can't argue that. Is his firing dumb...TBD.
