That's my issue, he is good around the net when someone else does all the work to get him the puck...it's when he is not around the other teams net is when he hurts the team. - Glak18
There is no doubt that in the right situation with the right linemates, JvR can produce points. Other than that or if he is not producing, he's just not that good of a hockey player. |

Basically. He’s not a difference maker on his own. If you have him on a line with Jordan Weal or Phil Varone, you shouldn’t have any expectation of him. Last night he was playing where he needs to be otherwise, why bother signing him to that kind of money?
My biggest issue is how soft he is. I’ve heard a few people say he can’t handle the puck, which isn’t true at all. His role doesn’t call for him to handle the puck much but he can do it. |

No, you can keep your JvR fan club card.
We have different outlooks on the game, you look at what their boxscores says while I look at how they got their goals and assists, turnovers for chances or goals, defensively coverage, effort and you know things that help successful teams win.
There are actually people who can watch a player have a hideous game, be responsible for multiple goals allowed, but score the OT winner and say they had a great game....seriously those people exist. - Glak18
Those people don't watch playoff hockey |

I would say the same thing about Simmonds at this point in his career. |

I honestly think Hextall signed him to be Expansion Draft bait. |

In my opinion Simmonds is a better player than JVR is. I'd rather have Simmonds signed to that deal than JvR. |

Again that is my issue with him, that can be said about any mediocre player. Just like Raffl getting bumped up to play with Giroux years ago and scoring 20. Look at Alex Chiasson in Edmonton, he didn't magically become a great player. That's great he is taking advantage of the situation, but eventually someone else will come along and do the same thing.
If a team has to change to accommodate one player then that player isn't worth having. |

I agree he is better, but a lot of what you said can be applied to Simmonds. |

I think there is a big difference between a player like JvR and Raffl. If you could meld the two, you'd have a really good player! LOL. JvR can score 20+ probably in any top 9 role. Play him on a top line that he can find chemistry with and give him PP time, he can score 30+. You have to have a team that can hide a player like that and deal with the deficiencies in his game. You also have to play him in the right situations.
The problem is the Flyers have too many players like that as well as too many grinder type forwards. Need more skill in combination with speed and quickness to balance it out better. |

Yes, but can also fill another role if not scoring. |

I'm not too worried yet. I have been hearing about all these goalies the Flyers are shopping for, Simmonds getting dealt to everyone, in on this player and that player, trading all prospects...
Yet not one thing has happened. I wouldn't be shocked one bit if the TDL comes and goes and fans are scratching their heads asking why nothing happened. |

This is my fear. I don’t think everything that needs to get done can occur in the off season. They need to get the ball rolling.
