It would load them up for next season. You make a solid argument. I’ll amend:

Sens get:
2020 1st round pick
2019 2nd round pick
Philippe Myers
Andrew MacDonald

Flyers get Stone

- bruinzfan77

I personally find that more reasonable, I would hope they can get Stone re-signed for that, but I would do it even with the risk.

Sounds good to me. Let's see if we can get Anderson for a 3rd.

So Stone manages to get himself to UFA status to escape a losing team so he can quiclkly jump to a team that has been worse in recent memory?
- Doogs

That isnt a players mindset though. You have look at it from his point of view. He is looking at the direction of the teams. Flyers as a team are young and while took a step back will continue to move forward wheras Sens are in disarray with Melnyk. You also have to consider that a guy like Stone considers himself part of the solution

All players want to win but there are other factors in picking teams. I doubt a guy like Stone would sign long term on a contender where he will be playing less minutes on the 3rd line. Ice time usually is a huge factor in where a player signs.

Well it won't be the Flyers 2019 1st that's for sure, if they want that they need to start with whoever is their most untouchable player and go from there.

Might be something to this rumor given what the Flyer's have done this season. Hextall wanted to take the slow and methodical method to building up the Flyers but that clearly was not in the interest of the organization. The opposite of what Hextall was doing would be to try and get established players that maybe could allow them to compete slightly better for a year or two. Obviously this is the idiotic route to go but it makes sense given the current decision making.

what's to say he doesn't get trade to a team and resign there.

Guys like Stone and Duchene don't become available for a reason; that's why a guy like Tavares (with all due respect, no trophies AT ALL) gets 11m per year

- AlfieisKing

I think you just compared Duchene and Stone to Tavares.
All due respect but you're delusional!
These 2 are excellent players but not top 10 players in the game. They are either going to sign with the Sens by the deadline or be traded as pending UFA'S and thus the value coming back will = an en excellent player who is a pending UFA .
NOT TOP 10 PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE WITH TERM.

The Hextall speculation is just that, if you want to believe he was fired because he wouldn't make a trade then so be it, but it's only a small portion of what transpired in Philly. The fact is Hextall is gone, a new interim head coach is put in place, all the prospects are the same, the first trade just took place today and all the same problems exist. Players still play with very little passion/effort and same unforced turnovers that sometimes look like they are doing it on purpose. So whatever was rotten before is still there affecting this team.

I'm saying Hextall's way of building a team wasn't something the ownership was interested in. He wasn't GM for long enough to really enact his plan, that takes time. So to me, him getting fired wasn't a "You suck get out of here" but a "We want wins right now". I think firing him was the wrong move and the Flyer's will sadly pay for it.

I'm not in favour of tanking just to get a 1st overall pick. I'm more worried about creating a losing culture and not being able to shake the habit, much like Edmonton. McDavid isn't saving them, and Hughs won't save us. Undoubtedly the Flyers will get a great pick, the young guys will get a chance to play, and hopefully Fletcher will get ahead start on next year with some early trades. So far losing is a habit in Philly and we need to change the culture, and win just for the sake of winning. Start next season with an entirely new look and attitude, so yes I'm in favour of buying. No tanking, no losing bullpoop, and lets set the tone for next season.

I agree with that approach. I like Kaapo Kakko over Hughes. There’s lots of good talent in the top ten. I’d move Simmonds for a 1st round pick at least. Flyers are loaded to bear with prospects. Loads of Free Agents this summer. Take a run at Erik Karlsson.

Stone wasn't in that car, FYI.

I understand that. Just pointing out that his influence on the kids may be a little overstated.
