Haha. You get that by having a backend that has 3 players still on their rookie deals. $7,394,962 between 6 defensemen

That's if Seabrooks contract magically disappears.

- SoftServe

A young backend on d sounds bad to me. Seabs contract disappearing ........ hahaha, I wish you luck.

I'll give you the inconsistency of Saad.

Murphy will be the vet behind Keith/Seabs with an inconsistent Gus filled around a bunch of rookies. I do like Joki, and expect big things from him. With a Delia in net, still too early to tell with him. Sounds like the Leafs, a recipe for a good season and no cup.

But that top 6 thooooo !

Off topic, but did you catch that CSN article about the Cat and Kane's play being Panarin and Kane like? And that's not even being on the same line for 5 on 5 play

BLACKHAWKS TRADE:

Hawks Rec.:

Slater Koekkoek
19 5th Rd Pick

Tampa Rec.:

Jan Rutta
19 7th Rd Pick

What kinda of voodoo is Stan working to trade both Rutta and Manning??? Wonder where/when the log jam of D-Men gets cleared up

I agree about Caggiula! What I'm most hyped about that article (an actual possibility) is Boqvist and Joki as a pair!
- SoftServe

I agree. I think that they hope is that one day soon those two will be a pair together one way or another. Surprises me a bit that a lot of people have Boqvist playing LD when he's a righty. Am I missing something there?

I just said in a pm that Rutta could be traded. Very nice, Stan. That was a decent guy I liked in TB. He played us well, but so did all of TB.

Thanks, embers, for the update.

Np had it come across on my phone from the Hawks app. Interesting move to say the least. RFA at the end of the year gives them another D-Men with promise. At some point this game of musical chairs is gotta give and someone is gonna have to go. Seems more now than even before that Forsling is gonna end up in Rockford, but then even still we're gonna have 8 Defenders on the roster.

Davidson was waived, will probably go down soon.

Slater is on conditioning now, how long ago was he injured and what?

..carrying over from last blog:

Even if you don't consider Keith a #1 anymore, he is most definitely a top pairing D-man on most teams, especially for those looking to solidify their back end. Sure, teams like the Sharks, Preds and a few other deep Defensive teams don't slot him in the top pair, but they aren't looking to trade for D. Teams like TOR, COL and others are specifically looking for D.

Regardless of age a top pairing D man is a top pairing d-man. Take a look at the salaries and ages. Suter, Byfuglien, Giordano, Burns, Boychuck are all 33 or older and have higher, some significantly, cap hits than Keith. Keith is one of the lower paid top pairing D in the league.

If you trade him you are getting a "sure thing" prospect and a low first / high second round pick, or a High first round pick and a "solid" prospect.

- TheTrob

Every dman you listed is way better than Keith today , so you just made my point that he isn't worth much

Ya he's a righty, so idk how it would work with Joki, unless one of them is comfortable playing their off side.

...and I was just about to write that you couldn't have a 'prospect' at Rutta's age ...

I'd call it a win for Stanley, if this guy can play North American style defense at any level. I suppose he had to have at one point to have been a number 10 overall.

Yeah, but with the way he's been playing he seemed like he would stay up and instead Forsling would end up being the one to go down when healthy (which it seems like will most definitely happen now) but now with Slater (haven't got his last name down yet LOL) on the team idk if he can be sent down or not since he was waiver eligible while with Tampa. Idk Stan's game of musical chairs is hard to follow wtf his plan is lol

Great write up, TC. Now I got to get use to that.

I'm excited for goalie Gravel. I wouldn't mind, years down the road, Delia and Gravel.

I'm glad Rutta is helping Rock, he wasn't doing much for us. That's awesome to hear Kane reaching out to Schmaltz, I know that trade hurt Kane. Especially after Q leaving. It was like the hits just kept on coming.

I'm ready to see Kurashev and Barratt, those 2 are the top of my watch list. Bowman said he wants to sign Kurashev.

- I Am The Breadman

Thanks Breadman.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens in net these next few years. Goalies are so hard to predict.

I will say PIT just signed Casey DeSmith to a 3 year / 1.25M deal and his path is very similar to Colin Delia's: undrafted, played University hockey, ended up in the ECHL at one point and then worked his way up to AHL, and then ultimately NHL.

With Nash retiring from hockey today, do you think that Crow is taking a long look at his career and future and may decide the same thing?
So long JL, welcome TC.

I'm sure Crawford has been doing a lot of thinking lately about his future. Lots of conversations to be had with medical professionals + his family and friends.

There was talk earlier that JC said he was wanting to try Joki on his offside to expand his game and versatility. Either way the idea of having both those guys and possible Mitchell and Beaudin all on the backend

I just think this is the best chance to move Keith if their is a opportunity to do so.

This team in the long run will be better off without him.

I'm not gonna complain if they waive him and he gets claimed by someone and they turned Rutta and a 7th into a another 5th round pick and a roster spot

Yeah, he has been playing well, but so was Rutta with Rock, haha. Koekkoek, pronounced Koo Koo. He's injured now, we'll conditioning from a shoulder injury. Sounds like TB is happy to get rid of him. We also gave up a 7th round pick for a 5th round pick.

I always wondered if guys had to use their real name when blogging for Hockey Buzz. So do they? Unless there is a specific circumstance such as yours JL/TC?

Anyway, love your blog posts. Always down to earth and even keeled, with a bit of optimism, just like me!

I definitely can't get enough Hawks talk! Ever since 2009 my hockey addiction has been growing and growing. Wish I had figured it out as a kid and actually played.

Thanks for the great blogs, and thank you to all of the other posters on here who I have learned a lot from over the past 6 or so years I have been reading here.

Thanks TnK.

I only used Justin Lowe because my old work had an outside writing policy. Even though I was in sales, this policy stretched across all departments.

I think most people use their own names in the blogging world.

Anyway, appreciate the kind words. Thanks for the support.

I really can't see Crawford coming back. To play a handful of games after being out for 10 months then to have this happen again.

IMO his best case scenario is in a backup role to finish out his contract.
