Bill, two questions.
1. Nolan Patrick is centering the third line, correct? Think you accidentally made a typo.
2. Do you believe philly is going to go after a top 4 D? Or are we standing pat and hoping for youth?

1. Fixed, thanks. No, Laughton isn't playing both LW and C on his line.

2. I think Flyers will be in the market for a vet D this offseason. Would make the move pre-deadline if it someone they feel they need to move on now.

Fletcher knows what the outlook is for this season. But the intention is to be back in the playoffs next year and beyond.

I am happy that Fletcher has started the retooling with the Weal deal. We all know what an offseason looks like when you set your sights on certain players and don’t win. All the best are scooped up and you are left with the pickings. Either you don’t like the price, term or in house options are comparable, so absolutely nothing happens.

This can’t be the case this offseason. As much as possible, Fletcher needs to get a jump start on the retooling before the TDL.

I'm not saying you haven't read the tea leaves correctly but this scares me.

That's what I wanted to hear unless it's a must acquire now type guy. This team isnt as bad as our record. I'd rather sell the pieces that arent a part of our future and hope for the best in the lottery. Hope provy gost Patrick rebound and sanheim hart hagg keep rising.

I want the Flyers to be more than just a good team. They aren't going to be able to get there by being aggressive on the trade market and in free agency. They need to supplement with that and not try to speed up the process by getting impatient.

I'm not putting words in MJL's mouth, but what I took from what you said was "let's get the guys now instead of waiting and missing out on them". I would find that method a bit scary too because that means not only are you paying huge contracts, but also paying a premium, a super premium to just have the better chance with still no guarantees.

I want a better team too, but whether with Hextall or [considered the best GM] no team can afford to give up the farm to buy a new team with the salary cap age. Actually buying a team pre-salary cap still had its issues and no guarantee of winning.

I want a balanced approach for once where the team is made up of those sought after players that will come here and produce mixed with core and youth the team has.

I’m with you, a Cup team cannot be built solely through the draft, nor are trades and FA only good for adding a supplemental piece or 2. Over the last decade key players on Cup teams were added via trade/FA; Carter, Richards, Hossa, Sharp, Chara, Kessel, etc. Those are key players. Jake Voracek is a core player on this team, he was acquired via trade, the pick that landed them Coots came in a trade, Gudas who has been our best Dman, you guessed it, came in a trade.

I don’t think Fletcher is going to go on and trade a bunch of firsts and all our top prospects for instant gratification, but odds are a couple may be on the move and a big dollar FA or 2 might be signed. I’m good with that. Let’s start winning!

Yup. But also I acknowledge not everyone will make it. Giving up Myers frost farabee this years first those guys would be a hard pass. But would I consider rubtsov or allison or someone like that ? Yes I would. If it gets us a player that will be with this core. Guys like Coyle kapanen etc that are on the block are worth it if its possible. I dont want us to sign panarin duchene stone Bob. That's dumb. I would like 1 supplemented with a trade or 2 and some youth coming in. And Hughes would be icing on that.

Anyone else see the Chi/TB trade that happened?

Tampa
Jan Rutta

Chicago
Slater Koekkoek

Basically Tampa traded a young guy for a soon to be UFA depth right shot.

I wonder what the Flyers could get for Gudas then, who I find better than Rutta. Gudas has been probably the most consistent Flyer blueliner this year and this would be the year you trade him for most value, not next year when he could possibly become old Gudas again.

Admitted Bozo here.
Would like to see more flashes of the move he made turning the Dman inside out and see him finish. They just have been so few and far between it just has me wondering about this kid. I do realize he is quite young still. Maybe next year he puts it all together.

A right handed minute crunching d man with good physical traits? I personally think at least a 2nd and B prospect. Maybe more with tdl desperation. Maybe conditions for higher pick or more picks.

For the right move that can help the team I would easily move ANY prospect with the exception of the following who would have to part of a HUGE deal that brings a bonafide superstar (I like Stone, but bigger):

Patrick, Konency, Frost, Farabee, Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Hart

Anyone else could be used for those additions and I personally think they have enough value they could get good roster players.

Trading with a team that needs future goaltending, Sandstrom is GREAT bait. Vorobyov, Lindblom, NAK, Hagg can give a team youth and play in the NHL now. O'Brien, Morin, Rubtsov, Cates, Allison, Laczynski, Ginning, Friedman can be enticing for prospects for others. That's a lot of value to get what you need without destroying the future.

I’m sure by now Fletcher has a plan....there will be some significant changes....whether they happen now, February 25th, or in June at the draft it depends if the players coming in or out fit the plan....One thing we know is he doesn’t have to over pay for a short term fix, because this teams 2018-19 season is cooked. So Fletcher can concentrate on building for next season. At least we now know the plan is to be a very good team next year, not 2 or 3 years down the road.

Sad to see Weal go, but happy they at least got something for him. I’m not sure what happened. He showed a few flashes of greatness a couple seasons ago, but he’s been invisible since then, along with taking dumb penalties. I miss Flippy, that’s for sure.

Let’s go Flyers.

I would love to try to pry Coyle out from Minnesota, I think Gudas could help them and give them more depth for the playoffs, especially being a RH.
