Dubas is gonna have to part with some thing if he wants a Dman for the playoffs. No fair trades at the deadline it’s all over payments for top D

Dubas needs to step up. He has way more assets to trade and can use doggie to replace jake Gardiner next year.

My question is why is this going to be potentially his 4th team in 4yrs at 25?

Because he is 6’6” but plays like he’s 5’10”. Everyone wants him to be a that big physical defenseman but that just isn’t his game.

Leafs won't make a trade for a top 4 D and as a result, will get stomped by the Bruins or the Lightning.

It's going to get tougher for Toronto once the cap closes in and limits their future options... Matthews at 12M and Marner at 10M. How will they have room for a legit top 4 D once these signings happen?

Why would a team offer to help Toronto out of their future cap mess?

The Cap is coming Dubas. Go all-in or go home.

Wow, I'm blushing. Glad you feel that we are only one top D short of a cup run. I think you need to watch us a bit more before making that prediction.

Don't think they'll go all in. Think they'll wait for Marleau and Horton to drop off with Lillybust, Bracco, Grundstrom and Sandin to come in.

Then it really begins.

So is this the rumor update we were waiting for? Two sentences? Or actually, it’s really just one long one. Hey, impressive either way!

The Preds are a good example of a team that didn't go all-in last year and got punished...

The leafs are in a worst position. They are against the cap and will have much less room.

Both Marleau and Horton are signed another year. So you think that the Leafs are just going to wait this year and next year without making a meaningful trade??

Also, you named 3 forward prospects. Isn't the problem on defense??

No need to worry. Leafs will be just fine in a couple of years. The Hawks however, could use your help.

Yeah. I think Dubas and Shanny are more patient than most want to believe. I think they know they're not a serious contender at the moment and don't see the need to make a trade.

The Leafs window is open for about a decade, so they'll keep plugging away to find the right mix and add more prospects into the team over the next few years like they did with Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kapanen, Johnsson, Dermott etc.

They'll probably look to FA (both North American and European) to help out as well.

Lots want the Leafs to blow their load this deadline but thankfully Shanny and Dubas are smart guys.

Still a few years away. Like Washington, Nashville and Tampa have shown, it can be a slow, steady process to be an annual contender.

Fun times ahead for sure.

Ahhh. Another silly Leaf fan with tunnel vision...

Hawks are much closer than you think .

Give us 1-2 years. Very promising prospects and players this year. WJC...

Good point. The Leafs will have about ~10 years. Losing 2 years isn't that big of a deal, if it sets you up for the future.

Might be a good time to trade a few prospects at the deadline. Give Toews and Kane another crack at a cup. Go all in!

I think they'll take the slow and steady approach, keeping prospects and 1st round picks etc.

Hey Habs & Leafs, I don't particularly like either of you - but take some advice and do yourselves a favor - don't bother with Hamilton. He is not worth whatever the Hurricanes are asking. If you need D, look elsewhere.
