Yes DW should look for some depth, for the POSSIBLE injuries, But Joe Thornton age & knee problems come into issue here. Thornton just doesn't look right out on the Ice & he's even slower then before.

The problem with Zajac is that he has 2 more years at 5.75mm per that will hamstring any ability to re-sign EK65 or Pavs. JUmbo is playing well enough that he can come back as 3rd line center for 1 more year and I'd try for $1mm a year to free up cap space. I'd love to trade Lebanc for Ferland in a deal for this year and then you'd have 4 guys, Ferland, Donskoii, Melker, and Radil, who can play up and down your lineup. You have to keep Heed and Ryan because a) you need 8 D, 2) we have the Seattle expansion draft to worry about, and c) If you lose EK65, you'll only have 7 D...I'm not sold on Merkley due to his continuing character issues

The Devils will gladly eat half and take back some cap space to make a deal and they have all the space in the world.

Trade for an oft-injured forward to help your injuries.

Would you dare trade for Vanek? 3rd or 4th line guy.

What does SJ do with Pavelski next year?
