You are the one with the wacky cig if you think Philly is trading Provorov.

Speaking of rebuilds, have the Rags even started yet?

Not one single person said they would contend this year...not even the most blinded Flyer fans.

Congratulations on being the Toronto Maple Leafs from the 90's and 00's...here is your forever bubble team sticker.

yeah the Rags are 3 points ahead of the Flyers and played one more game, both will miss the palyoff but one will still have a good NHL lineup, stacked system and finally CAP space

Victor Rask sucks

Look at those offensive numbers. 23 shots in 26 games while starting a majority of the time in the offensive zone.

It's like he is actively working against his own team.

The kid has the pedigree. The Flyers just need to make sure not to burn him out.

A good nhl lineup? It’s bad enough when you Hokies overvalue your players take Simmonds for example most of you have been trashing him all year but he’s worth a draft pick and a prospect here’s a tip........other teams watch game tapesm

Most teams also know he was recovering from off season surgery to fix a ton of things hurting him last year. His game is returning.

Wouldn't it be better to be a buyer at the draft where prices aren't as inflated as they tend to be at the Trade Deadline?

That very well may be true but you have to admit he’s on the downside of his career plays a physical game at his age you don’t recover from injuries as quickly or as well most teams take this into consideration. The returning game will never be as good as it once was and teams aren’t going to pay a premium for a wish.

Nino Niedereitter for Viktor Rask as per TSN. I'm baffled. https://www.tsn.ca/hurric...eiter-from-wild-1.1243129

Good trade really. Wild get another C with term and free up a bit of cap space. Could see them move Granlund.

His production this year is still on pace for career norms also. So not really a stretch for what is being reported.

For the Flyers...

I would like to see Fletch go out and get Duncan Keith from Chicago.

The Flyers need a stabilizing effect on D and to run him with Ghost and-or Provo that will do just that.

Flyers fans need to understand that Keith later in his career isn't going to be a 50 point guy but he could help stop the MISERABLE plus-minus issue with the Flyers' top two.

More importantly, this would be an investment (that they can afford) in Carter Hart. How many goals last night were "east-west" nightmare shots for Hart? The first two - for sure.

Would Chicago take a nice prospect and this year's second round pick for Keith?

The Flyers can not trade their Jack Hughes pick obviously.

-----

As for the Wayne Train - I love this guy. I loved him in LA and even better in Philly but he's going to get OVER PAID and good for him but the Flyers need to keep their window open.

How about the rough basics of a deal:

Toronto Gets:
- Simmonds
- A good prospect not named Morin, Farabee, Frost but a good one.
- A pretty good pick

Philly Gets:
- Nylander
- A lesser pick

I don't see the Flyers making the playoffs this year but these trades make them pretty damn good going forward.

----

Later we can talk about Coach Q for next year and how that ties into Keith above.

"There is a feeling among the organization that they can get there by adding a few pieces"

Get where? playoffs? Stop it.

If they want to be 'buyers' AFTER the season, then i get it. The only thing they should be doing before the deadline is moving guys...Voracek, Simmonds etc.

Hey Eklund, I'm confused about the cap space you've listed for the Leafs and the Oilers. I thought the Leafs have $5.5M in cap space available (and can add another $5.3M by putting Horton on LTIR), and I thought the Oilers only have $2.3M in cap space/LTIR. I got these numbers off of Cap Friendly, but perhaps I'm reading it incorrectly?

Also, I am curious what would happen if Sekera returns in February. Wouldn't the Oilers have to shed $3.2M to get him off of LTIR? I do not understand the rules around LTIR fully, so if you (or someone else on this forum) could explain it to me, I'd be greatful. I am surprised this is never something brought up by sportscasters when discussing the Oilers and the trade deadline.

The Flyers may be buyers, but it will only be to get a jump on next season. They have no shot at the playoffs this year.

if you are talking about trading picks and/or prospects for established YOUNG NHL players in the 24-25 year range I can see the flyers "buying". but if you are taking about buying for a playoff run and you are saying they believe they can make it, I have real concerns about Fletcher and Holmgren
