Most teams also know he was recovering from off season surgery to fix a ton of things hurting him last year. His game is returning.

I like the diagnosis Dr. Dragon of Frost! Suffering from a ton of things hurting. Better have surgery to get that fixed... UBI? Nope. LBI? Not that either. He has ATOTH.

What else is hurting? Well, duh, his game. But someone will overpay both at the deadline and on July 1. He could help the Leafs but not enough to offset what it would cost.

Seems you have a strong dislike for the Bruins. They will be buyers. Not saying anyone good but im guessing they will at least get a bag of pucks.

Neiderreiter would of been a good fit. maybe the canes would part with Williams a good playoff guy

No thanks. Williams’ playoff successes are way behind him. They need a legit top 6 RW. I like Panarin but that’s an off season signing if at all.

Ferland would be a decent rental if it’s not too pricey.

Simmonds is on pace for his normal career numbers even after his laundry list of ailments at the end of last season. Keep your delusional he's declining thoughts. Because anyone who's adding him is going to pay up.

Simmonds will be one heck of an addition to whichever team gets him.

I’d go for Stone for sure. He gets it done. I really Panarin’s raw abilities. I’m not sure which player will be more expensive.

In a previous blog, I suggested the following trade for Stone:

Ottawa gets
Backes - if he agrees to go
2019 1st round pick
2020 2nd round pick **
Prospect D like Lauzon or even Grezlcyk
Heinen or Donato to go along with Backes

**becomes a 1st with an extension

Boston gets
Stone
Dzingel

The Islanders are not gonna have a ton of salary cap issues this summer. What are you talking about?

Hey Eklund, I'm confused about the cap space you've listed for the Leafs and the Oilers. I thought the Leafs have $5.5M in cap space available (and can add another $5.3M by putting Horton on LTIR), and I thought the Oilers only have $2.3M in cap space/LTIR. I got these numbers off of Cap Friendly, but perhaps I'm reading it incorrectly?

Also, I am curious what would happen if Sekera returns in February. Wouldn't the Oilers have to shed $3.2M to get him off of LTIR? I do not understand the rules around LTIR fully, so if you (or someone else on this forum) could explain it to me, I'd be greatful. I am surprised this is never something brought up by sportscasters when discussing the Oilers and the trade deadline.

- Pilon91

Go to the capfriendly site and hit the CBA menu. There is a section detailing how LTIR works. You need both a PhD in math and a law degree to understand it.

Toronto:

Has 5.5 in space.

1st Round Pick and Martin Marincin (800K) to Detroit for Jimmy Howard (5.3) as a backup (Rental) (Fills a this year need)

This leave them with 1 mil in space

Nylander (10.2 this yr then 6.92 cap hit next 5 years) to St.Louis for Parayko (5.5 for 3 more yrs) (Fills a need for next 3 years)

Toronto now has 4.7 in space (this year)

A 3rd to New Jersey for Ben Love Joy 2.66.

This leaves Toronto with 2.04 for the season.

At the end of the year Howard is UFA the 5.3 hit is gone, Love Joy is UFA the 2.66 hit is gone.

With Nylander gone they would have an additional 3.15 in cap space next year.

If Marleau were to retire (trade to a floor team), it is an additional 6.25 in cap space bringing to total to 9.4. Let Jake Gardiner walk its now 13.45 in space next yr

I like Parayko. Leafs need that.

Marleau won’t retire and should not. I think Kadri gets moved as well. Kapanen will need a new deal too.

I thought the Isles would be in full seller mode without Tavares. Personally I’d load up at the deadline one way or the other. I think they should trade whomever is not going to extend. I’d prefer to be loaded with picks and prospects for the long haul.

So just ignore the success, best team in the league since the start of December, but hey lets just unload, that won't send a message. In case you didn't notice they are way past JT, best defensive team in Hockey. Also Ek lets look at cap numbers, as reported the cap is expected to be in the 82 million range, that gives them 34 million to spend, they don't need a d man, not one yes Lehner is earning a raise, Lee will be extended, but after that they could attack the FA market in a huge way with 25 mil per season to spend, Duchene and Panarin, omg replace Nelson and Eberle and still have $ in the bank. In Lou we trust!

I was mostly referring to the Kieth nonsense, he was amazing but he's slowing down significantly, and signed through 2023, I'm good on that. And a rental, mid grade prospect, and decently high pick (probably referring to a 2nd) is no where close to what they'd want for Nylander, don't get me wrong I wouldn't give up more than that for him, but that won't get it done.

I am not saying they don't need help on the back end, but this narrative that the Leafs D corps are lousy is not backed up by actual statisical data. They have the third lowest goals against in the Eastern Conference. Even after this rough patch

Why would the blues trade their young, top defensemen for a player with 3 points in 18 games? Seems like the Blues lose on a one for one trade here...

This one is easy. Andersen makes them look better than they really are. On top of that, their possession numbers are likely higher because they have one of the best forward groups in the NHL.

I honestly thought that they could get a lot from their expiring contracts and load up for next year. Could still extend Anders Lee. Maybe they should stand pat and see what they can do. If they add at the deadline, what do they go after?

That pace will dwindle as the season drags on. Especially in the playoffs. Might be an ok depth acquisition but I think they’ll go with their younger guys. Price would have to be low.

What’s the price tag on Simmonds? He’s a great PP guy but is a minus player is whole career. I think the Flyers want a lot but will he be worth it?
