Yeah because they don’t already have 9 NHL caliber dmen when Shultz comes back. They need to move more than just Maatta if they are bringing on Muzzin. Jack Johnson would be who I moved and I would throw in a 2021 first round pick to do it and retain salary. I don’t get what level of mind control koolaid he made Rutherford and Sullivan drink but they appear clueless as to how much of a liability Johnson is. I’m not trading JO, Petterson or Riiko either. A playoff defensive group of Dumoulin/ Letang, Muzzin/ Shultz, Petterson/ JO, Riiko/ Ruhwedal looks pretty damn good.

Sorry, we are not taking Johnson back. What prospect would you be offering? Remember, Toronto badly needs blue line help as well not to mention several other teams.

I don’t see a trade here. Muzzin isn’t going for a middle to low end prospects. Blake will want a higher end prospect and a 1st. With muzzin still having term left he won’t be given away.

Although I would love to have Muzzin, I don’t think the Pens have the assets to make it work since our 1st hopefully will be a low pick and what prospect from WBS is worth any value? Just not a good match.

@TheCannuck

That's a fair deal and if we didn't have to deal with getting a 3C I'd entertain it, but right now we're best served using our assets on a 3C and expending a first and our last remaining good prospect really dampens that chance.

I’d do the following...

TO ???: Brassard
TO PIT: 2nd + Prospect

TO LAK:
1st
2nd from Brass trade
Maatta

TO PIT:
Muzzin
Carter (25% retained)

Next I’d ship out Oleksiak to make more space.

Let's go for Muzzin AND Carter.

Brassard, Määttä, 1st RP + something should be a starting point.(perhaps Oleksiak, for cap purposes)

All the meats!!!

To Kings:
Brassard
Maatta
Addison
1st rounder

To Pens:
Muzzin
Carter
2nd rounder

Probably not enough but it gives the Kings dump Carter's age, salary, and term, they lose Muzzin but get a decent defenseman at reasonable pay with some term, a prospect D (is that they area Blake is looking for?), and a first rounder for our 2nd rounder. The last part isn't much of a shuffle depending on how far Pitt goes. Might have to swap that with a 1st or a 3rd.

Pens get an upgrade on defense and 3rd line center. Lose a prospect they need, fall in the draft, and take on Carter's retirement party in 2038.

The Kings aren't interested in Maatta. They have better options in their own pipeline already. They'd take him back if the Pens needed to make the salary work, but he's not really worth much to the Kings. You guys would be better off trading him elsewhere.

If the Pens wanted Carter and Muzzin, it would probably look something like this:

To LA:
2019 1st
2020 2nd
Hallander
Addison
Oleksiak
Brassard

To Pittsburgh:
Muzzin (50% retained)
Carter (25% retained)

That basically drains any quality prospects the Pens have.

This does not help Kings at all. They won’t want matta and they don’t need brassard

I'm not a fan of letting Hälländer AND Addison go but we'd be a much improved team and capable of getting a couple more cups for sure.

Pretty much. Mortgage the future to win now.

The Kings have no shortage of options to trade both of these players to. They'd both be in high demand, especially since Carter has been playing well recently. Someone would be willing to pay that price.

Also this trade only gives the kings 1mil in space. This is a horrible trade for them. They aren’t trading their 2nd either for any of those guys, if at all. That will be like the 33rd pick. You really think this trade would work. I mean thank god it won’t happen.

I don’t think either of them are worth mortgaging the future for.

I'd really much rather just ride out the defense and focus on a 3C. I know that you're against Carter but I really don't think he's a bad idea. Its tough when the main guy we're trying to trade is a 3C and we're trying to get a better 3C.

I don't disagree. That's just what the Kings would be looking for in return.

Look I'd like to get Muzzin as much as the next guy but he's not worth what the Kings fans are saying on here IMO.

As others have said, I'd rather a swap of 3C, and if needed add a sweetener to go younger (read as hungrier). I wish I watched more games of other teams so I'd have a few examples to throw out there.
