Really wondering what the return on Ceci would be. - david22
depending on the package I think
Ceci straight up, I can see a 2nd round pick + prospect or D that is a 3rd pairing |
|
|
|
If some team is really "Hot for Ceci" (which would be the worst Van Halen song ever), a 2nd round pick or equivalent prospect is certainly within reason. D-men usually have inflated value at the trade deadline, and there's often a premium to having (relative) youth, size, and a RH shot on your side. All you need is a second team interested, and off you go into Alex Burrows crazy-land.

I said about Ceci, play him around 20m (not 22-24) and he will play a lot better. Not saying the Sens can afford that but other teams can. Behind a solid pairing the guy can play well.

I'd try for a straight swap for middle-6 winger. Someone like Boone Jenner or Charlie Coyle. |

Does anybody believe they are asking for a 1st for Ceci?
Someone I spoke with was very adamant that Ceci is seen as someone caught in a bad team situation with a coaching system not suited to his game.
I don't think they want to have to deal with his contract in the off season. So, I think he will be dealt. I well be surprised if he brings back a 1st round draft pick. |

If that's the case, they would likely be asking a 1st, so that they can get offered a 2nd.
The ask is always higher than it should be.
I've always thought Ceci is good in a certain roll, but we have never seemed to use him that way. In jr he was a pure offensive D and it worked, Then he got to the Sens and he's more used as a shut down guy.
I think the best value for Ceci is adding him into a package deal. |

Freakonomics (the hidden side of everything) explains how the law of unintended consequences consistently produce outcomes opposite to expectations based on traditional thinking.
So, the Leafs outbid the Islanders for Tavares. Leaf supporters expect a significant improvement in the standings and the opportunity to compete for a Stanley Cup. Islander fans assume that the entire team will crash and burn.
Why has it not evolved as expected?
Islanders charge into the lead, Leafs are struggling.

Leafs arne't exactly hurting. They still appear to be the second best team in a division that has the best teamin the league. |

No I am too much of a political junkie and listen Serius 118 most mornings. Not sure where this push back on Ceci is coming from but there is strong belief that he is far better than his Ottawa showing. |

I can't. I don't have a strong feeling either way. Is there no middle ground? There are scouts who like Ceci. Surely you are not going to complain if another team gives up a good pick or prospect to acquire him? |

Thinking about this logically, the Sens have 5 games left until they have a 3 game home stand against ANA, WPG, & CAR. This home stand takes place just over 10 days before the trade deadline AND when the team goes on a 4 game road trip. My best guess is that the Sens will make a move at that time involving 1 if not both Duchene and Stone; possibly throw Dzingel into that time frame.
They'll want to sell tickets and trading away stars before those games isn't a good business decision. Also the team will need to get points and holding on to these assets is the best way to to do that. If I had to guess, unless a really good offer comes, that is the week where a lot of action will start to happen; I don't see anything happening with the big guns until Feb 10 at the earliest |

Pierre McGuire was defending Ceci.
I don't like him either but he's in such a crap situation. If he was drafted in the 2nd round and was from manitoba (instead of being a hometown highly touted prospect coming up) I think people would think very differently of him. |

There was a player (I can't remember who)and Pierre had nothing positive to say about them. Nothing. And I remember thinking, wow, this guy must really suck. |

He seems to be bizarro world Alzner. Where Alzner was a high pick, played top-4 minutes, had poor results stats wise, but was considered great because his team was good.
Same for Ceci except his team is bad. Does he get waived at 28? |

How do you guys view Erik Karlsson? I would not consider him for a Norris trophy. A forward playing defense. He is not great on defense by any measure |
