They'll need that and more to get back into the playoff race. It seems the Islanders and Canadians have decided they need to play good hockey consistently to make the playoffs and guess what? It's working! I'm thrilled we've got guys like Eichel, Dahlin and Reinhart but it just proves you have a well coached team with depth and a system the players stick to you're going to win games
- bluengold12

I agree, I think it falls on the coaches and the system.
Either that or the players aren't listening to the coaches or playing the system.
Which falls on the coaches.

Lindy ruff will be coaching the 2019-20 Sabres in some capacity in my opinion

Dahlin had a fantastic game imo. Watch his simple plays to drive guys wide or strip the puck. Also some efforless (looking) offensive moves.

Idk, the Sabres attempts from the slot, their TOA and all of that looked good to me. A few terrible plays sunk the ship, but I really believe this team has a 5 game win streak in them

I sat through - and watched - both years of Bylsma's system which consisted of Eichel looping back into the defensive zone to collect the puck and then he had to try to dance through 4 players. I will take Housley's aggressive play-to-win style any day of the week. He has his d men pinching and creating opportunities.

Turn out the lights, Playoffs are over..... Better luck next year.

Thanks Botts for working so hard to make this team better.

He is making the team better. Just need to hit on the picks and move the deadweight out.

This team wasn't as good as the 10-game win streak, but it's not as bad as the recent results. They will be in contention for a playoff spot well into the Ides of March

doesn't matter to me...Im happy for the guy. it was a win for both sides regardless
- gordong

You’d be happy for him if he was just being a whiny quitter bc he didn’t wanna be here, or was stuck on the 4th line?

If he’s genuinely got issues,
that’s one thing

If he’s just saying all the things his agent told him that teams will need to hear to get a 2nd chance...
well, f him then

This is the most I've hated this team since the beginning of last year when I was foolish to believe they were improved. After a month into last season I wised up and just watched because I like watching hockey. I've been frustrated with them at times but this broke the camels back for me. A game we clearly should have won, dominated the play almost all game yet we get too cute with the puck in their zone or we shoot it right at the goalie and then on our end we've got guys turning the puck over left and right and our goalie can't stop anything.

It was obvious to me before how badly we needed secondary scoring. But we actually got the rare game of secondary scoring today and still lost in regulation!!

Meanwhile inferior teams like the Islanders who lost the only star on their team in the off season and the Canadians are winning games left and right and leaving us in the dust! I'm so livid right now.

Montreal and Islanders teams are really not that good. They have very good coaches though....

Scandella once again might as well have been an orange cone on the game winning goal. TAKE A STICK! He's just awful in space in the D Zone and has slightly more alertness of your average stone. Can't cover his own shadow. Can't even find it.

Love some of these posters. You would think they were a perennial playoff team and not a team that’s been in the basement for more than half a decade the way some of them talk.

I think they should have a good team in the next few years, but they have not been doing so good for a few games now. And when was the last time that team was relevant in the last few years like you say?

Funny fans for sure.

I found this from Joe Yerdon's twitter page from Dec 21st

TJ Oshie: "I had to reach out to him a month ago and ever since we've been chatting a couple times a week. It was a little bit of a surprise to me, but I'm behind him 100 percent. I don't want to get into details because it's his personal life, but he's a really great person and so I respect him a lot for taking control here and getting done what needs to be done. The toughest part for me is not being there, not being his teammate. You feel you could have helped out if you were together."

Daniel Carcillo basically saying Bergy was loaded up on pain meds in the 2014 playoffs and played 4 games in the Chicago series when he should have re-constructive surgery. His family delted both his twitter and instragram accounts.

Clearly he has issues. Be respectful at the very least dude. Or maybe that's too hard for you because your a (frank)ing bumhole. Delete your account would be even better.

Sabres on pace to finish with 92 pts with a projected 42-31-10 record given their current 24-18-6 record which has earned them 54pts, and as we know a bubble team that is trending in the wrong direction.

However,
if we removed the 10 game win streak, then used the win percentages based off of the 38 other games played to date to recalculate what their record would be without the 10 anomoly:
- their current record would fall to 19-22-7 = 45 pts
- their projected finish at the end of the season would be 30-39-13 = 73pts
- would drop them from 14th overall to 24 in the league.

Using the same computations, but only applying the 38 game record to only the remaing 34 games left to be played and adding that to their current record gets them in the middle of the range for the season:
37-34-11 = 85pts

So, which record and points do we believe is a better reflection of their overall play?
Should we feel good about where they are with the 10 game winning streak included?
Should we feel the team is still not a bubble team and the 10 game winning streak is an anomoly that has blinded us to the real reflection of their play this season.

Personally, I believe the 85pts is the best reflection of this team. They are close to a bubble team, but not really there yet.
This leads me to hope JBotts stays the course and continues to make moves designed to improve the long-term performance of the team and not rush to acquire rentals for a short term push that weakens our asset pool needlessly.
At the TDL:
I'd like to see hockey trades...some that move out contracts on the blue line, specifically LhD's used to get a 2C, LW/RW finishers
Be Sellers to unload another contract or two...Scandella, Sobotka, Bleauliue...the usual list to build up more Murrancy

I’m an Islander fan I understand but throwing out adjectives like inferior when describing other teams is a bit hypocritical under the past and current situation.

What's happening with Anders Lee and Brock Nelson contract discussions?
Any new news?

The islanders were inferior in relation to the Sabres until a couple of weeks ago. The Sabres had a large point cushion on a lot of teams that have now passed them. In a season where every single thing in the world could go right for the Isles I would wait until the fat lady sings before walking around with your junk out. The Sabres have a bright future no matter the outcome of this season and it’s only up from here.

Anders Lee I’m sure they’ll sign after making him captain and Trotz seems to be a big fan of Nelson so I assume he’ll get locked up also. Lou is so secretive with everything you never know what’s going on but it’s been reported they’re negotiating with Lee. Eberle will most likely be the odd man out imo. Maybe traded at the deadline so we can get something but most likely they’ll hold onto him and let him walk.

When? For a two week period in the last seven years? Also, I’m not walking around with my junk out but as a Sabres fan you calling a team that’s been to the playoffs three out of the last five years and won a round inferior is laughable.
With that said I’m not here to bash your team but calling the islanders inferior? Come on. Hysterical how some think Tavares was our only player. 40 goal scorer in Lee, Barzal, Bailey, now toews, mayfield.

I’d rather have Eichel, Reinhart, Mittelstadt, and Dahlin and 3 2019 first rounders over one playoff series win. Barzal is a fantastic player. Lee is a 30 goal scorer and a good player but will be overpaid or not on the Isles roster at all next year, ditto Bailey.
