39 points in 39 games for Bracco. I’d rather trade Nylander in the off-season and keep Bracco.
Marner-Bracco-Kapanen on the right side.
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Matthews-Bracco
Grundstrom-Kadri-Kapanen
Moore-Lindholm-Marchment
Marleau replaces Babcock as head coach. Salary is about the same, and I believe they are the same age. |

Don't know if trading Liljegren helps. Seems like a silly idea. |

Maybe Nylander will turn it around... but it sure looks like they would have been better off letting him sit and dealing his rights at the deadline... you know, before he showed how useless he had the potential to be.
Be good if they could deal him now, but unfortunately it would be the definition of selling-low. |

Kapi has worked hard to get where he is, and continues to work hard, do not want to lose him. Trade Nylander if anyone. Nylander for Ferland and a D off Carolina. |

Yea, if we move him, we sell low. Besides if he catches fire on another team, we'll kick our butts for sure |

Wonder if Willy will ride the pine for a few games now? Good time to put Moore in to show him some hustle. |

HELL NO to that knuckle dragging mouth breathing idiot Gudas. Don't need his sorry ass taking rediculous penalties constantly!
That said yeah no moving Kap. Rather try and just ride it out much as possible here, though wouldn't be opposed to offering Lilly and a pick for Muzzin there. No reason to make massive major moves here and agree with the sentiment of possibly moving Nylander in the offseason for a better defence piece if need be. |

not entirely fair Zezel. Many of us wanted him signed and traded and wished all along that asset was used to help the defense.
His recent struggles just made that more difficult to do. |

Oh, FYI.. you can’t discuss such tomfoolery in here.
You have to chastise people and make a bunch of poop up about what they said at one time.
For example, you might say “maybe Babs should bench Nylander for one game to send a message”, others will kick and scream at you and try to say that you wanted to trade Matthews and fire Babs etc etc.
That’s where we’re at as a hockey discussion community. |

If they pulled off something like pietrangelo, parayko, ekblad and lilgeren left in the deal I feel it's fine. Hes still just s prospect. He could end up looking like Griffin reinhart. |

I'm frustrated as a fan because it's been 20 games. That's 25% of the season. If you're a player sitting out you better come prepared when you get more than the team originally offered.
I dont think he should be moved now but man in the off season I'd like to see him traded for Ekblad. (I'm a fan so I'm allowed to make up dream trades all I want) |

It's what happens when you have fanboyerism. Many of the fans on here are around 25 years old. They've probably never seen a Leafs playoff round victory. All we've gotten since the early 2000's are mediocre, if not dreadful results. We get a few decent, players, but lack pieces on the back end to be a playoff contender. In the last 10 or so years, we've had 3 playoff appearances. We've lost long series, because we don't have defensive depth. The first Boston 7 game loss had Dion Phaneuf as our best defender and James Reimer in net. Not good enough. The last two playoff appearances, we had very good young forwards, with speed, but lacked grit and again another deficient defense corp. Gardiner is average and Rielly is good, but after that, bottom pair defenders at best. Dermott has promise.
What I'm trying to get to, is that we can't advance without a commitment on defense. Analytics can help while developing young players, but there is a hole in the idea of being competitive, due to intangibles. Toughness, grit and competitive standing can't be measured with pure analytics. People like Kyle Dubas swear by analytics, and although it's a tool, it's not a measuring stick on competitiveness. The Leafs need to retool their defense and bring in at least 3 good defensemen, even if it means trading star wingers to do so. Currently, we have a number of similar types of wingers, Kapanen, Johnsson, Nylander, with players like Bracco and Moore playing on the Marlies. In other words, interchangeable parts.
What's missing is size and wingers that will drive to the net. Currently, the Leafs are an incomplete package, with holes on the wings and on the defense. Can it be turned around? It can, but it's going to take courage to make these kind of trades, whether the fanbase likes it or not. |

Alls I said was I disagreed with you, homey. That I thought benching the player would have the opposite effect from what you seem to expect. |

My favourite part of the kapanen talk is a lot of posters here had him in their trades for defensemen at the beginning of last season because he wasnt "much of a prospect". All of them are saying hes now untradeable. |
