It will be a giant sack punch to leaf fan if they lose Marner. - Pet.m.d.
There is NO WAY they lose Marner...they may have to give up other assets for less then they want, but Marner will be signed no matter what. |

Maybe, but you don't let that kid walk. I think the leafs would be in the same spot standings wise without Tavares..we'll see I guess, might want Dubas to blow his load and go all in for this year, might be their best look at it. |

That’s your dream scenario but unfortunately for you none of that is going to happen. And in what world does the 30 goals by Tavares not matter to the Leafs? |

he's an RFA, he can't walk
they either sign him (99.9% what will happen)
or they trade him for a monster return
the only asset they have that can clear enough cap room for them to have a full roster next year, that isn't reliant on like 4 guys, is to trade Nylander.
I suppose you could also move guys like kadri, but he's on such a team friendly contract that it doesn't seem worth it, given how little they'd actually save.
that Marleau contract is such a kick in the ass |

I don't even think Horton's contract is on LTIR yet. The plan is to get passed the Marleau deal this upcoming season (6.25M) Hence why they couldn't buy any UFA years from Matthews. |

Toronto has Matthews for at least 5 more seasons... Nothing to be sad about ... Great days ahead for Toronto fans - pwasil7
They’ll be sad if there are no cups during those 5 years and he ends up walking for whatever reason.
I think they’ll win at least 1 though. I’ll say in 2 years 21/22 season. I think TB, NSH or WPG win this year. If one wins and the other 2 don’t, i say one of the other 2, 1 will win next year and TOR the next. I should put money on TOR now! 😱 |

I love all the "it's obvious to everyone but Leaf fans that they can't sign these guys now".
Did you guys miss the TSN breakdown of exactly how they can afford all these guys along with projected salaries? Unless you're under the impression that them being off by 100k on the Matthews deal is the straw that broke the camel's back?
The crunch is also only for one year and then Marleau's 6.25 comes off as well.
I know that no one wants to see the Leafs do well but so far Dubas has made all the right moves and it drives people crazy.
P.S. Nylander won't be traded and having him locked at under 7 million is going to be a total bargain. |

You cant afford to keep nylander. The whole world knows it. You will have 10 million in cap room to sign at 8 players. Including Kappanen, marner and Johnsson. Marner will cost at least 10 million him self. Even if you get rid of horton contract, you still cant afford him. - BigDog912
Well maybe so....nothing I will lose sleep over....seems like a lot of non-Leaf fans go to bed every night stressing over there cap situation and got themselves convinced be damned...that they can't keep em all! But if you thoroughly read my original post I did mention that I think Kappanen will be traded this Summer. |

That's the risk you take by signing players that you think will give you the best chance. Nothing is guaranteed. I'll be satisfied with one...because it's one more than I thought I would see in my life time!

As a kings fan I understand. I didn’t think I’d ever see 1 cup let alone 2. |

Now that they've set the bar, your team and 30 more will be. Depending if you want to be competitive, that is. |

What I would consider cap hell would be a bad team with no cap space, like the Oilers. But according to their blogger as long as we admit that McDavid is better than Matthews then all is well. |

People just don't even try anymore. You hear one mutt mention something about "cap hell" and everyone runs with it like it must be true. Unless Marner is signing in excess of 10 million per year, they'll be fine. |
