I don’t look at any teams cap. I just watch the games.

well, its not really honest to say they haven't accomplished anything.... what is anything mean? win a cup? if that's the measuring stick than there are a large number of teams who have as of yet not won one.

what have the Leafs managed to accomplish in the past 4 years..
1) tanked... successfully and won the lottery
2) drafted quite well
3) dumped overpriced contracts on teams like Pittsburgh, Ottawa and Columbus
4) started 7-8 rookies in 2016-2017
5) hired one of the best coaches
6) changed the culture
7) completely changed the narrative around the team...

so, yes you can state that they haven't been ultimately successful - not yet having won a cup... but they aren't that far off and its not unrealistic to see them compete at a high level for a few years

if you compare that with the huge success that teams like Ottawa, Nashville, Buffalo and NYIslanders have had...

Leaf fans, you get to see Matthews play for your team for 5 more years. He's a great player. Enjoy it.

When did the Pens take that contract on? I feel like I’m missing something there.

he's an RFA, he can't walk

they either sign him (99.9% what will happen)

or they trade him for a monster return

the only asset they have that can clear enough cap room for them to have a full roster next year, that isn't reliant on like 4 guys, is to trade Nylander.

I suppose you could also move guys like kadri, but he's on such a team friendly contract that it doesn't seem worth it, given how little they'd actually save.

that Marleau contract is such a kick in the ass

A first ballot HOF that scored 27 goals last year that makes $1 million a year less than Piece of Sh!t Bobby Ryan that has managed 20 goals 2 times in the last 6 seasons. And Ryan - easily one of the worst current contracts in the NHL is going to stink up the Sen's rink for another 4 years after this one ends. I shouldn't be so hard on you, after all, Sens fans have so much to chirp about these days. Dion Phaneuf says hi.

or beating the sh!t out the Sens in the playoffs every (frank)en time they've met. Will be a long time before Leaf fans get to see that again. Can't wait for the draft lottery.

Why does everyone say that like you need to win a round before you are able to win more?

Vegas made it to the finals last year in their first season in the league.

The whole needing to win a round in previous years is played out.

Trust me, we will.

Aside from you and a few other fans from other teams. Just like to rain on our parade and act like our chances of winning a cup are over before it even started.

It's quite funny.

i love all the deflecting.....

"shut up, my team doesn't have cap problems, YOUR TEAM has cap problems"

nobody said Marleau was a bad player, but the fact is that his contract is going to hurt the team next year. oh, and BTW, Bobby Ryan has better stats than Marleau this year.

To be fair Vegas did have to get out of the first round to make it to the cup finals.

who said your cup chance is over?

all anyone has said is that the leafs are going to have some serious cap problems next year............it's funny how many leaf fans absolutely refuse to admit it.

the fact is, next year you have under contract:

7 forwards
5 dmen
1 goalie

you have approximately 18 or so mil to sign 6 forwards (including marner, kapanen, and johnsson), replace gardiner and add another dman, and re-sign sparks

if you can't admit that you can do that without either trading a key piece away, or accepting the fact that you'll be a top heavy team with zero depth.....than you're blind

This year is the only year moving forward that our management will have difficulties fitting everyone under cap for next season. After that it gets much easier. All we can do is hope Dubas and crew can figure it out.

I'm not all that worried though. Can ship out a few depth players to make it work. Marlies have a couple players that can fill in for the time being.

If Dubas can get all players signed without trading any of the following players then give the man GM of the Year before the season starts:

Matthews (11.634)
Tavares (11.000)
Marner (RFA)
Nylander (6.962)
Marleau (6.250)
Kadri (4.500)
Kapanen (RFA)
Johnsson (RFA)
Rielly (5.000)
Zaitsev (4.500)
Muzzin (4.000)
Andersen (5.000)

- Glak18

Give him GM of the Year if he keeps all those and GETS RID OF ZAITSEV

Tanner I don't think I will ever agree with your written words. This is seen by every other GM in the league as a gift. I know this is torture for Leafs fans to hear but it is this year or it's not happening. You cannot have four guys taking up over fifty per cent of your cap space. Dubas must have more moves on the horizon because this team as it stands now is not good enough, especially once playoff hockey rolls around. War of attrition men. All of a sudden a Matt Martin type is what they need.
