Thompson better be hurt.

Housley is going to keep Sobotka in after two horrible turnovers, and ZG, who did absolutely nothing? Thompson created two beautiful chances and drew a penalty (he took one too, but still). How did that earn him a demotion?

He plays Scandella because he can PK and he plays Sobotka cause he can win faceoffs. Since Thompson can do neither, on top of the team not having a problem creating offense, along with some rookie errors, he's the target.

That penalty he took was downright brutal at the time. Lazy. I like TT, but he wasn't moving his feet reached his long frame out, bear hugged Coyle(I think it was Coyle) and held on. With 5 min left, nursing a 1 goal lead, that's a penalty you can't take. Might be a, "kid, you can't take that penalty" moment.

I'm sure your rationale is exactly what Housley is thinking, but, some counterpoints,

ZG lost his man on the second goal and allowed him the space to hit it out of the air.

Sobotka's cluelessness led to (I believe) the Foligno chance. He also had a horrible OT giveaway.

Larsson plays the PK, so taking Sobotka out of the game would be a net-zero.

Finally, watching Thompson is fun. This is supposed to be fun, right?

If one dumb play reverses an entire game's worth of good plays, then Dahlin would be scratched every other game

If you can't see the difference in how a coach would view a "dumb" play vs a "lazy" play, I can't help you.

I struggle to understand Housley's rationale at times. Not to defend him necessarily, but all coaches have this issue. I must say, pulling Ullmark for Hutton just because they lose 1-0 was (frank)ing frittata.

It was said that all 4 goals were because of the Sabres being lazy last night.

I don't buy that at all.

Okposo has FIFTEEN minor penalties this year - 30 pims. Twice as many as TT. Most of which are "lazy" stick infractions. How many scratches for him?

On top of that, the penalty that Thompson drew in the 1st led to the Erod PP goal. And he created two scoring chances on his own. It's a bs call

I couldn’t agree more and if it’s punishment for a bad penalty, at least the kid showed some heart and grit

I'm not even the biggest TT fan, but if Housley is thirsty to get Larsson back in, there are 3 more viable candidates to take out, and the top of the list should be Sobotka

If he is going to use that logic, then you should just go ahead and cut Scandella. The guy does 10 dumb ass things a game. Slowbuttka, you can't get any more brutal than passing the puck to the other team in the slot, not once, but twice in the same game. Having the highest face off win percentage on the team didn't work out for O'reilly, and he is light years better than this turd...Boy Botterill should thank his lucky stars that Berglund did what he did. Eating those two sh#$ contracts for the combined money that O'rielly is making would really look bad at this point...

I mean to say, that perhaps Housley believes TT can learn from an aerial view for a game, so that he doesn't take that penalty in the future. Perhaps he thinks that is a valuable lesson for the young guy that the older guys know. Game-by-game changes are gonna happen, no use getting upset until something sticks long term.

Yeah. Wow.

Housley sucks.

I truly wonder what this team would look like with even a semi competent coach. Probably a better powerplay at the very least. I know, I know we scored last night.

Sobotka's usage
Pilut sitting/Scandella playing
Not calling up players sooner
Force feeding Hutton despite Ullmark's play
Now sitting Tage

Done. I'm done. Fire Phail.

I get it, he made the right decision with Pommer during the streak. I'm not sure I can point at another inspiring decision from the man in two years now.
