Anthony Travalgia: What was up with Bruce Cassidy’s shootout lineup last night? The Bruins lost to the New York Rangers Wednesday night, 4-3 in a shootout.

Boston is gross in the shootout, it’s hard to watch. They just aren’t built for it. Guys come in with too much speed and goalies read them like a book. It’s clear they don’t practice it at all.

Mccavoy is struggling really bad. He was aweful last night. As well every shift it seems teams are exploiting Chara on the stretch pass.

On a side note, any interest you think in Boston taking on Kovalchuk? Depends on the price and maybe LA eats 1-2 mil a season? Would be a scoring winger for Krejci.

At least with 3v3, which can happen during regulation, there is a semblance of team play both offensively and defensively.

I also was dumbfounded when Bergeron was not one of the 3 shooters. How does that happen? Also, do not like when the BIG line of Pasternak, Marchand and Bergeron is split. Those guys have such chemistry. I know the dilemma...little or no secondary scoring. Still, I don't like it. Hopefully B's add somebody to help get the 2nd line going so the big 3 can remain together.

Bruins need to stay ahead of the Habs. Not sure of exact playoff possibilities, But B's vs Leafs is much better than B's vs Lightning.

Anyway.....weird choice of shootout shooters. Anyone hear the post-game and the coach's rational.

At least since the 3 on 3 OT has been established, seems like shootouts are way down.

If somehow you can avoid Washington.. The wild card going to the Metro might be a better road for the Bruins anyways. Tampa/Leafs or Islanders/Penguins.

I doubt the Islanders win the division but if you could land the wild card that starts on the Island and hope the Penguins can take out the Caps... That is a much easier road for the Bruins in my opinion.

Either way you have to beat good teams.

Allow me to interject and take advantage of this opportunity to heap abuse upon the notion of shootouts.

The shootout is garbage. It's a stupid way to end a professional game. It does a disservice to the sport as a whole. Yes, everybody likes watching an earned penalty shot in a game, but nobody wants to see an entire game settled via a parade of canned penalty shots.

Having said that, coaches' selection of shooters has always boggled my mind. More often than not, they include at least one non-shooter who has stone hands. Why? What is the thinking there? Let's take a guy who struggles to score 9 goals in 80 games and put him in a shoot-out?

Unless Bergeron has a concealed wrist injury or something like that, there is no good reason for him to sit during a shootout. It would be like Tampa sitting Point or Kucherov so Ryan Callahan can take a shot in the shootout. WTF.

Idk I’m not too worried about the shootout. It’s not like they happen in the playoffs.

The real concern, obviously, is the middle six. I think the team has reached a breaking point with the lack of scoring. Something has to be done, whether moving Pasta to Krejcis wing or making a trade (or both).

I think the Bruins should be all in on Stone. He has Bruin written all over him and I can’t believe he hasn’t been mentioned yet. I honestly can’t think of a RW that would fit better with Marchy and Bergy. I’d even move DeBrusk for him assuming it came with an extension. I’ve also heard people mention a Backes / Ryan swap as a possibility. I’d also do that in a heartbeat. Ryan had success with Getz and Perry, I could see him having similar success with Marchy and Bergy. It sucks that they’re in the same division but Ottawa and Boston seem like great trade partners

I kinda agree, but I definitely prefer a winner. I’m sure we agree the shootout sucks though lol. They should go 10 min 3v3, you’d hardly see a shootout ever again

Only professional league where some games are worth more than others. It’s a joke really

I was only able to listen to the play by play last nite. Sounded like the Rags got away with all sorts of garbage in OT that should haave been called (eg the interefernece on Krech).
Is this true from someone who watched?

Thanx.

Don’t sweat it t rask we all know the bruins were playing their third game in four nights they were tired otherwise they would have won 7-3 in regulation

Probably in a very small minority here: I'm not sold on McAvoy and if the Bruins could get a good return for him I would do it.

lol... in a heartbeat.

Just trying to get informed before ranting. Would have been nice to see the game as well as listen. Sounded like an exciting one.

"nothing wrong with ties."

especially vs ending the game on a novelty. The penalty shot used to be one of the most exciting plays in hockey, becase they were rare. Now, ewww.... I think the problem stems from getting a point from a tie. You lose, you should get goose egg. Hell, you win in overtime, make it one point, make teams fight for the 2.
Hate it, hate the 3 on 3, hate the shoot out, would rather they just finish the game like they did before.

I'm a big nope on that. Good defensmen are hard to get, he still has growing to do ,both Physically and with his game. He's still a kid...
but depending on the return.....

I'm kinda with you, but I'd like to see him after he plays 200+ games before I'd do anything rash.
Although, it might be too late by then.
I felt the same way about Carlo, and he's coming along nicely now.
Defensemen take a little longer to learn the pro game.
Injuries to both haven't helped.

I agree with all of this. Not even sure what the market would even be for him. His injuries and the frequency of are concerning. Then again I'm probably wrong, which happens often.

It would be a huge mistake to move on from him now IMO....He’s gonna need some time. He has regressed a little this year but I think it’s a confidence issue with him. When he has his mojo he can dominate and is fun to watch.

Him and Heinen both battling the confidence this year.

It would really depend on the return. The organization believes Vaakinainen to be NHL ready and you signed John Moore to a puke inducing contract. Someone has to go, you're super thin up front and to me the team needs more than one line. Your best two trade options are McAvoy and Krug.

I know we all want to keep everyone while somehow acquiring a real top 6 wing and 3C but giving up Heinen, Zboril and 1st doesn't happen in reality.

EDIT: (frank)ing up the 2015 draft and reaching for Senyshyn along with Heinen, Donato and Bjork all not living up to their potential is hurting the team.
