Where did you hear that Roberto being the goalie going back? Someone on TSN said Reimer would be the one to go. Roberto has a pretty strict NTC, it’s only a 5 team list and he LOVES Florida so I would imagine his list is a joke consisting of like Pittsburgh, Tampa, LA, Anaheim, and some other coast city - maybe even Vancouver.

I’m not sure why people keep saying Bob has so much trade value, he shouldn’t. He’s 30 and having the worst full season of his career (thus far), is a pending UFA, has never had a good run in the playoffs, and there’s a ton of goalie potential out there as it is.

Personally, I don’t buy the Bob to Sunrise rumors one bit. I think it’s just smoke. I’m sure Tallon wants Panarin and if he think he can land Karlsson then he might trade Hoffman for additional assets. With so many other guys like Stone and Duchene set to hit the market, I don’t think Tallon does anything unless an extension is discussed beforehand.

If Columbus can get anything near a 1st for Bob I think at this point that would be an extremely favorable deal. For Panarin? Probably in the neighborhood of a guy like Brass (or a young roster player), a 1st, and a blue chip prospect is my guess

I think you are being generous on that return as well if Panarin refuses to discuss a new contract. A rental is a rental is a rental. If the Jackets use Panarin right up to the deadline, a late first from a contender, roster player & a decent prospect is about all you can expect, Im sure some extra conditional picks can be added based on making conference finals & if he resigns with that team.

For me, would love to rent him for the Flames but all we can really give up would be a 2019 1st, Czarnik & maybe a prospect like Ruzicka, then add a 2020 2nd if we get to the conference final & maybe add another 2021 1st if resign him(unlikely as we have no cap space to do so)

NO no no on Luongo. If we get a netminder back in that it has to be Reimer with lower AAV and shorter contract duration.

No chance does CBJ take on Luongo at 39 with 3 more years on the books after this at $4.5mil+. Yowza no. At least with Reimer you've got a guy who is 9 years younger, cheaper, and only on the books for 2 seasons. That gives you time to figure out if Korpi or Elvis can handle the job.

Personally I think the best bet would be Reimer like you mentioned, but Luongo IMO would have to be packaged with something to take that term PLUS he would have to agree to the deal.

I have already mentioned a Bob and Panarin to FLA trade in a previous Ek blog, but was told it would never happen, ever, ever, ever. As an outsider looking at both clubs this is what I would do:

Columbus:
Panarin (6.000m)
Bob (7.425m)

Florida:
James Reimer (3.400m)
Vincent Trocheck (4.750m)
Owen Tippett or Grigori Denisenko

Conditions:
Both re-signed: 2019 1st
One of them re-sign: 2019 2nd (PIT)
Neither re-sign: 2019 3rd (EDM or NYI)

Florida obviously improves greatly for the current season and playoffs, while Columbus gets a serviceable goaltender, better center depth now and future while adding a prospect. Florida has a great chance to re-sign at least one, if not both, so that pick will balance out the value.

Columbus still has the ability to use the assets they get from the trade or other ones to possibly get another goaltender (Quick, Howard or Crawford) or sign one in the offseason.

There are pros and cons for each side, but I think it balances it out.

I agree with others here that have said no on Luongo. That would not be in best interests of the Jackets future. Way too much term & age.
Reimer should be the goalie coming back. Let Louie retire a Panther.
If both B&B are packaged we should get at least a 1st rnd pick, top tier prospect (Borgstrom; Tippett; Hepiniemi) + player; + 2nd level prospect + Riemer. We could add a pick if needed to balance

Unless those players are signed prior to trading Columbus will never get that much. Right now you have to look at UFAs as trading their rights for a small portion of the season.

4.5 cap hit but actually salary is 1.6, 1 and 1 with the Canucks paying 15% of it

Men,

I ask this question in all seriousness: Why would Columbus trade Breadman and Bob in the Eastern Conference? The last thing I would do is trade them both to the same team and risk that I have to see three times every year.

It's a concern, but one that is pretty low on my list. I don't think both players re-sign with the same team, even both are moved together.

Smart money would have Jarmo ride out Bob and Bread, then reassess this team in the off season. The cbj are in a too precarious position to trade away players of that caliber.

No way. That would be handcuffing the future of the CBJ - for what? - one round in the playoffs ? C'mon - look at the bigger picture.
This is not a cup-run team. Not strong enough after the 1st line. And not consistent enough in the net.
And dream on if you thing either of them are staying in Cbus.
Sell off the B&B boys, get picks, prospects & players, flip some for immediate help (with term), and keep most for the future.
Hold them after the TDL and all you're left with MIGHT be a few mid-round picks for negotiating rights - and 3 magic beans.
The 2020/21 Jackets team should be really strong, and ready to make a cup run, especially if it can be bolstered with the return from the B&B boys !!

Never said they would stay in Columbus hens the ride out part. Unfortunately the rational behind this makes sense I agree with you and would do the same, buuutt the unfortunate part of being gm sometimes , especially when working for a team that is considered small market / low revenue like the cbj, you have to produce results to ownership.

They're in the midst of a playoff run, what message you're sending the fans except alienating their trust if Jarmo trades two established stars for what might be peanuts (because rumour is no one is offering the good stuff for what might be rentals), then missing the playoffs for no apparent reason and drafting in no mans land in 9th-10th overall.

As a season ticket holder the new 5% ticket tax is more of a problem then trading Bread & Bob. You Can't "ride them out" That would future playoff suicide. Take the best deal you can get and don't worry about what team, division or conference you send them to.
I would rather miss the playoffs this season then ride them out get knocked out in the first round because Bob is a playoff headcase and then they leave for nothing.

The key to the next few weeks is moving assets to keep the train moving forward. That means that if you move Bob you need to acquire another goaltender and that goaltender needs to be signed for at least one more season.

The same is true for Panarin, but in regards to a guy who can play PP minutes and produce.

In both cases, you need to try and maintain levels of production, while gaining future security via picks/contract lengths/prospects.

If you can't do those things a) maintain some production b) secure future assets - then you likely are forced into keeping the players and trying to get the most out of the assets you still have. Then, when the season ends you recoup your assets in the form of $$$$. $13.4 million of immediate cap space ain't no joke and it allows CBJ to be very creative this offseason with Free Agency.

I'm on the side of trying to get some draft picks in an already low draft pick year for CBJ. If we weren't short a 2nd and a 5th already, I'd say ride it out and be buyers at FA, but I feel like CBJ is extremely thin at organization depth forward wise and we really need those picks/prospects.

---------------------------

tl;dr you can trade them OR hold on to them and still get value out of the equation, but I lean towards trading

Yeah . . . I neglected to mention the additional cap space we gain.
We've not been able to attract a Level A Free Agent to sign in Cbus - for whatever reason. Our street cred has been better since Jarmo & JD arrived - so hopefully our bad luck with FAs will change.
I think we can use the space to acquire players from teams who are cap constrained and need to make a trade - something like what Toronto may be facing. They have some good, young talent that are on RFA contracts, but can't sign them for the $$ the player wants.

If the return makes sense like Huberdeau, Reimer and a first , yeah sure go for it, if not then like I said keep them , let them walk and retool/reinvent the team with all that cap space...

You're not getting Huberdeau, and especially not with Reimer and a First for two rentals. Easy there.

A more likely trade would involve Brassard and Reimer and conditional draft picks associated with each Bob and Panarin that are bumped up if they sign with FLA. Plus a prospect. And likely a pick returning to FLA from CBJ as well.

Reimer
Brassard
Prospect
Conditional 2nds that turn to 1sts or some kind of mix of picks

Panarin
Bobrovsky
3rd and 6th
