That's the key word right there though; riskier. Sure you'll get a few more low mid-round picks, but to me, that just doesn't cut it considering the amount of risk involved, as you mentioned.
Also, how would you be prepared for such a possibility if your prospects and picks go south? If they turn out bad, don't develop as well as you'd think they would, or bust, there is very little that you can do IMO. - EdmHockeyMan
I don't disagree with the sentiment of securing our top-4 long term to force our prospects to have to earn their way in. There's merit in that route.
That having been said, if I'm to remain consistent on my belief that the forward corps is the bigger problem, I can't then support trading Draisaitl. I believe his high end is sufficiently well above Nuge's that he should be treated as almost untouchable- despite having his share of flaws.
Further, as depth is a big problem for the team, I think securing some cheap depth is the necessary and the Nuge trade brings precisely that. Given where Carolina's 1st would likely end up (13-18), I'm confident in my own ability to pull a great player out of that pick. Wallmark/Faksa are already NHL depth that have some offensive pedigree, Bean is producing well in his rookie pro season and Kuokkanen/Hintz have been trending positively for 3 years now; I believe that trend will continue even though development is non-linear. Depth supplies versatility that shouldn't be underestimated even if it's at the expense of a higher value asset like Nuge. |

Rumour has it that they'll waive Petrovic and Manning. |

He was ok last night for a guy who hasn’t played in a very long time....if he can return to form I imagine it will take time....rust plus the type of injury he had will make it tough

Good stuff.
I don't expect too much from him. If he finishes the season on the 2nd pair I'll be pleasantly surprised. |

Reasonable expectations given the situation....I just hope he can stay healthy for what’s left of the season

I have him/Bob/De Smith as my goalies...as you can clearly see...I am (frank)ed all ways, but any stats are better than no stats |
