I remember reading some damn impressive numbers around Kokkonen.

We could end up getting that for sure...you mentioned Manning and the only way I can see that is if we ate a million of his deal....might be worth it tho....can throw anyone out there to replace him
- RatedR80

I'd do that too, though we might be able to package him and a 6th for a 7th or something similar.

What say you Maxbone, keep the pick or move it for roster help with term?

I'd say move it but the problem is our lack of cap space.

I would hold onto it till a new GM is hired....maybe move it on draft day if the right offer comes....I’m certainly not moving it at the TDL

Finns are great....that’s why Carolina should give us Kuokkanen and Dallas should give us Hintz

Keep it this time. Sadly, we need to accrue cheap assets for two years from now.

Chiasson and Kassian are movable and could get a good bargain.

Spooner and Manning on the other hand.....

Those 4 players combine for about 8mill-ish in cap space. 7.2ish still on the books going into next year.

What I would do is try and go the big short on these assets prior to the deadline. Put up something of value and surround it with dog crap.

So package Chiasson and Spooner to a team that would love some offensive depth. Say get a 3rd out of it.

Package Kassian with Manning and look at a team that has injuries, but is in a playoff spot. Kassian is riding a hot hand. Manning, well he is a body that can be put on the ice. Try to get a 4th out of it.

That's 8m in cap space (7.2 net by the offseason) opening up that can be used to get what we actually need. A top 6 proven winger (Stone being our best bet).

I think that's what it's going to cost us to ditch that contract and we do need to ditch that contract. It's that or we're hamstrung for the next four years.

I think most are hoping the new CBA will allot buyouts which if that’s the case then if my timeline is correct we would have to use him for one more season before that becomes an option....if it does play out like that then I wouldn’t use the 1st round pick either

Or we wait two years and then buy him out. Or my patent-pending, half-retained buyout. Or we buy him out just to be free of him. While it's not like it's a welcome problem, 6mil isn't an untenable cap anchor. Teams compete with overpaid players quite regularly; the bigger problem is how many cap anchors we have. Almost every contract Pete gave out were overpayments and the Koskinen deal only adds to that (seriously, how the (frank) do they justify THAT?).

Lucic's 6mil alone isn't the end of the world, but in conjunction with Sekera @ 5.5, Russell's 4, Kassian's 1.95 and Koskinen's 4.5 makes this a real struggle.

I swear Chiarelli knew he was getting poop canned and made these moves on purpose to stick it to the Oilers.

Hypothetical trade

Draisaitl, Puljujarvi and Lucic for Sheary, Okposo, Nylander, Buffalo's 2019 1st, Blues 2019 1st

Would you?

Nope.... Okposo's contract is as bad as Lucic's with slightly better production.

15G/40P is more than "slightly" better than Lucic.

But yeah, I get what you're saying.

Hard no. Sheary is a nothing-burger, Okposo's contract is almost as bad as Lucic's and Nylander hasn't developed in 3 years at the AHL level. The 1sts are appealing, but not appealing enough to convince me to move Draisaitl.

Nope.

If LD is on the block, I want something along the lines of what I proposed last blog coming back (Teuvo/Pesce with us adding in this case). I have no interest in prospects and picks.

I wouldn't make that deal. I personally have no interest in garnering prospects/picks if LD is on the table. See the Pesce/Teuvo deal claim.

Not big on Reinhart and Im confident the Sabres wouldn't do it. I'll pass.
