Oh I agree. I was being sarcastic. See my earlier replies.

Oh I know. I was more referring to the whoever made the proposal. I don’t really see how it’s an upgrade on any front.

I feel like this is the bane of being a Pens fan and being lucky enough to have both Geno and Sid on the team. Fans keep thinking they should keep brining in these reclamation projects because Sid and Geno will make them stars.

With their limited time left this needs to stop. The Pens need to bring in proven players.

I don’t see how this makes the Penguins better.
- j.boyd919

I'm not sure it does either. I like Fowler and think getting him would at least give the Pens 2 strong pairings with a decent 3rd. It would be fun to have Perry out there with Malkin. It's only makes the Pens better if Perry can get back to his old self. Moot point as I can't imagine a trade like this happening.

Corey Perry is 33. He’s not getting back to his old self. He’s old. That’s really all there is to it lol

Fowler is the west coast version of Jack Johnson. Got where he is based on athleticism and isn’t very good at hockey. Hard pass from my opinion. He’s not really an upgrade over JJ and Perry isn’t an upgrade over Phil in any capacity.

I honestly don't think he's even an upgrade over Hornqvist either and we'd be lucky if he at least brought was Horn does. I know Vic pointed out the 5V5 points, but the he's trending down whereas Horn is staying the course for right now.

If Silfverberg is available and the Pens can grab him for a reasonable cost I don't see why they should pass.

Swapping JJ and Kessel for Fowler and Perry makes the team worse by 4 points per the tool I posted.

I can't lie, I definitely go back and forth on Horny. I'm not necessarily against most players getting traded as long as it makes sense. Right now trading him doesn't make sense, but if he were to be traded, trading him for Perry certainly doesn't make sense.

Yeah I got off the trade Hornqvist band wagon a little while ago. When we still had Sheary and Sprong was still at least promising it made sense, but not anymore. You could make the argument with Bjugstad but I feel very strongly that he should play C.

This is my biggest concern at the moment. I think having Bjugstad anywhere other than 3C is a waste of a trade.

No I think it’s just big names. Casual fans are suckers for dudes with name recognition and it happens all the damn time across every sport. During the pre-Process Doug Collins era of Sixers basketball, Sixers fans would always be like “Well if we just bring in Dwight Howard”. During the peak Process Era, Dwight Howard turned into nonsense like Ricky Rubio and Jeremy Lin. It’s the same general concept as the absolute infatuation this fanbase used to have with Jerome Iginla and Bobby Ryan. Casual fans don’t really know how trades and salary caps work and just gravitate to the house hold names they know. Because who the (frank) knows who Lee Stempniak is who can produce 45 points for you for 1 mil a year unless you actually follow the NHL closely.

I altered my lineup:

LW: Ovie, Tkahcuk, Dubois, Marchand

C: McDavid, Bergeron, Point, Kuznetzov

RW: Pastrnak, Meier, Debrincat, Aho

D: Carlson, Hagg, Krug, Dahlin, Chabot, Josi

G: Hart and Vas

I don't feel great about my RWs, but I think this works.

A bit of a dramatic take on Fowler. He would instantly be the second best d on the team. He can skate, move the puck and plays a ton of minutes. He would be able to provide some offence from the LD position which you can't say about any other Pens player.

Perry is in no way near the level of Kessel at this point in their careers obviously.
