And in the mean time in Buffalo...Our GM ships off our second line center (now we need one desperately), brings in two straight up salary dump guys in a trade that would look even worse but for the dumb luck of having one guy remove himself or we would be stuck with two more albatross contracts. We, for whatever reason seemed to think that the human turnover machine named Scandella was going to be some kind of veteran presence to show the young D men on the team "how to do it"...Well, if that is your man to show them how to do it, no wonder our D still sucks. As for some others, Larson should not be allowed on an NHL rink, Girgensons is an AHL player at best, Okposo would be doing the team a tremendous favor by just retiring before he starts wandering around telling everyone he's Batman. Bogosian, see Scandella - and more wasted roster $$. Risto seems to be regressing each year. I could go on and on, but all you have to do is subject yourself, if you dare, to watching this train wreck a few nights to see it all on display for yourself.

Last word. Phil Housley is not even in the zipcode of the answer at coach. Sabres blew it again this past off season when Pegula did not personally reach out to Trotz and do whatever was necessary to get him to Buffalo. I thought we were supposed to be in the "business of winning cups"....man does that seem like forever ago now.

P.S. Our captain is a huge freaking baby that needs to realize that while some would put up with his baby boy antics while he was on an entry level deal, that he is now making ten freaking million dollars a year. SO, maybe he can work on actually hitting the net a little more when he shoots the puck and put in a little more effort on the back check instead of floating back down the middle and / or watching the other team out work you in your own zone every shift...

Hey Garth I think this write was your best imho great analysis on all involved very professional ..with all the talk of Toronto needing a top right dman. Imho so does Buffalo. (Left) Scandella is not really looking great in the top pairing role .And yes probably a second scoring center?..would anisimov (spelling?) fit?,..if available (apparently) ..or shenn or steen from st. Louis?..again not sure if their available or would be a fit ..with steen not in the age timeline of this core .but would be great vets that can bring leadership and grittiness and can still skate ..again imho not necessarily those particular players?..but giving up one of those in something of a package (i believe)..4 1st round picks in the next 2 years?would say to this team that we believe this group can compete in the playoffs! hopefully Sabres can make up the points that separate them..and climb back into a playoff position..best of luck moving forward

So, what happened to the 4 "Premium Pieces" from the O'Reilly trade?

Kinda looking like 2 cap dumps (1 Quitter) a mid round 1st and a B prospect

Who called that? Did anyone call that?

You have got to be able to fire up the troops or the GM should fire you. Housley has done nothing with this team. So much talent that even Ted Nolan or even Lindy Ruff could do better. I think the players have gotten used to having a long summer off and don't want to get hurt in the playoffs. When you make millions of dollars, why work extra hard for a few more bucks. I just cannot imagine making 10 million dollars a year to play a freaking game. I know you are on the road a lot and away from home, but so is a traveling salesman and I know I won't make a million dollars in my lifetime. Once they get their long term contracts, they play half as hard. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night playing this poor.

Trade San Jose's 2019 first rounder and veetran LD Nate Beaulieu for a legit, proven 2C for the stretch run.
The 28th=30th pick in the 2019 draft, plus a D man who cannot crack a weak Buffalo D corp might get you a 4th line centre (Boyle) Avs are not a charity

Rookie Rasmus Dahlin is already being mentioned in the same breath as the GOAT Bobby Orr. Dahlin is on his way to a 45-50 point rookie season
. Really?

Not to beat a dead horse but that is what happens when your team sucks. The ROR trade is quickly becoming in the running for the worst trade in Sabre's history. The 5 premium pieces has turned into 1. The 1st round pick. If they miss on that pick that trade might be the worst in history for the team. After watching Thompson play this year I think we were forced to take all 3 of them (compared to wanting them) I have never seen a bigger guy play so soft. So in summary the 3 premium pieces 1 left the team the other 2 are in the lowest plus minus on the team. I wonder what it would take for a team to trade for ROR from St louis. My guess is a lot more than 3 end of the bench players and a 1st round pick. Well done STL this trade is a big part of why this team is now again one of the worst in the league .

Recent game streak...
Rangers (10 worst record in the league ) lost at home 6-2
NJ Devils (2nd worst record in the league lost 4-1
next up
Florida (6th worst team in the league) ...
Let's not sugar coat it this team is once again one of the worst teams in the league.

I would trade Sheary and one of our 1st rounders and a 2nd of needed to Ottawa for Duschene. We will have the cap room next year to sign both him and Skinner and then be set up the middle for several years.

Still reading, but the Canes were never the laughing stock of the NHL. They've always been a competitive team who has trouble scoring and poor goaltending. But, laughing stock? Nope. And, that wasn't a hockey trade between Minny and Carolina. That was a no brainier for Carolina.

Wayne Simmonds is still on the block lol. A late 1st rounder and...ummmm...who? For a 2c? I mean, if you want Derrick Brassard I'm sure that 1st could do it, but he's walking after the season and Buffalo still has no shot at the playoffs

Finally, WHO THE HELL HAS EVER COMPARED Dahlin to Orr? Seriously? HE'S A ROOKIE!!!! A good one, but c'mon man!?!?

Nah. Just hold onto what the sabers have. Duchene will be available as a free agent. Don't waste a pick and a depth scorer for a rental.
