Peter Tessier: Jets hammered by Avalanche Take aim at many after Wednesday night's loss but remember this mess is because of Maurice and his stubborness.

This headline is perfect, cause the Jets are playing like their porn parody

Also, to RafiDRW(?) in the last thread, Laine is 4th in 5v5 goals since he started playing

As a diehard Avs fan...if asked to provide a dozen scenarios on how this game would turn out Id honestly wouldn't have predicted the Avs would win by that margin. Wow. Im shocked.

I keep hearing how the broadcasters on TV call the Jets big and fast, well they haven't looked like either for a while now. There's no speed out there at all right now, Slow puck movement, poor foot speed and just an all around lackadaisical effort. The team isn't even finishing their checks half the time and their gap control is non-existent.

I don't think a Stone will fix this team, I'd rather keep the assets and go for lower hanging fruit instead of going all-in with this group. Grab a Johannson from NJ, try and find a LD and grab a 3-4C so you have options to finally mix up the lines.

What a sh!t show. I am agreeing with Pete on this one. Bednar changes his lines up to spread their top line talent around and Wpg stands pat on a number of issues. Last year when Scheifs was hurt, Wheeler centered and performed admiranly but the point being that Wheeler centered a line with Scheifle being out. This year, come hell or high water, not going to tinker with that line aside from changing Connor or Ehlers. So, I agree, i don't understand the reluctance to shake up the lines.

Other areas, trying to get Patty Cakes going at the cost of your team. I certainly wouldn't want him him on my line as he is slow as molases, no physical play, does not drive play, has zero puck battle, can't win a 50/50 pucks, etc. So, there is also a glaring reluctance to do anything except playing him again and again hoping that he will break out his slump and outscore his mistakes.

Btw, outscoring your mistakes is not a long term solution and if any other coach comes here, Patty Cakes will be in the press box where he deserves to be. He is a TERRIBLE hockey player with a big shot. There is no way, read this again, there is no way players like Wheeler are not feeling resentful towards Patty Cakes effort because his lackadaisal effort continue to receive playing time which he simply does not deserve. There is no trust left for him from his teammates. That is obvious.

Please put this guy in the pressbox. Far above average NHL shot with a work ethic and skating ability lower than Allen Cup amateur senior hockey. He looks hilariliously funny out there falling down, getting beat everywhere on every play when it has to do with any type of battle or play driving.

You can't tell me that the team is happy carrying this dead weight around game in and game out.

Not to dump on Laine but...

Add to that when interviewed and asked about how he thinks his play has been over the past few weeks...he says "not bad...pretty good...it's only hockey"!!!

I don't know about you...but if I ever said that to my Manager about my performance...I'd be shown the door.

It's his livelihood...his job...it's how he earns his money...and his ask in June will be massive...but he doesn't seem concerned about putting in the extra work to improve his game.

Not sure what the answer is...but selling the farm for a rental should not be an option anymore.

Agreed....anyone who has ever played a team sport knows what it’s like to have someone on the team who is not pulling his weight.

First time comment here.

I have followed this blog for about 5 years. In those 5 years I can probably count on one hand how many times you have posted the night of a win by the jets.
To say that last nights posts was negative is an understatement. If one were to look at all of the posts this year and have no clue on the standings you would think that the jets were in the running for the Hughes lottery.
Where was the post when the jets beat Vegas at home and Nashville in Nashville in the third week of January?
This team is younger than last year. Some of the players are hearing their names in trade rumours for the first time in their career and they aren’t reacting really well to it.
Yes the coaching staff could do more but when have they ever been praised by you!
I read other blogs and at least they are positive about their team once in a while which is more that I can say about this blog.
The Winnipeg Jets season will be ultimately judged in the playoffs. But by your comments , and many here, this team will not make it out of the first round.
As a true Jets fan, I know there are issues with this team but, I would hope that they at least get some credit when credit is due and not be blasted every game for what they could have done better.

Go Jets Go!

Get Petan out of the pressbox, send Laine to the press box. Petan has more to offer this team at this point in time then Laine in any category.

Guys, this is not rocket science, we are just dropping a bit in the standings to make our first rounder better for Dorian to allow us to get Stone and we are letting St.Louis play there best hockey now so that when we meet them in the first round they have nothing left. How am I the only one who sees this? If anything, I applaud Maurice for this unbelievably stealth move!!!!!!

Interesting angle that I failed to recognize. I see the strategy now that you have pointed it out and I must say it is very strategic and chess like................

So glad everyone has figured out Laine is the problem for the Jets.

That must be why Conner-Sheifele-Wheeler are sitting at 49.71 corsi and getting outscored 20-25

or the Perreault-Lowry-Tanev threesome have 4 goals between them in a month

or Hellebuyck currently at 2.98 GAA good enough for 35th place in the nhl and .909 SV% which is 24th in the nhl

Why does this team with so much speed an talent just dump and chase. Without Ehlers they rarely score on a breakout.

If you had put this at the start it would have saved time.

Your belief in what is true or makes a Jets fan has no impact on reality of how the team plays. I have been positve but i point out what matters and am not a cheer leader for the team.

Thanks for reading.

I agree. Our top line against the opposition top line has been a disaster. This is all on the coach. MIX UP THE LINES POMO

In a game where everyone was terrible, you Pom poms single out Laine. Makes sense.

I agree Petan should be in. He should be in for Lemieux.

With everyone playing like ass, Laine is the biggest player for us. Only he can score from nowhere

that is a panic response to a loss and looks like this one was pre-written just waiting for an opportunity to roll it out.

This is the perfect time and situation for a crisis and adversity. The players and team are embarrassed, they will be more pliable to fine tune systems and ready to put in the work. On the other hand they are in a position of strength in the standings and are set up to gel for a good run at season's end.

With such a young team we are set up for huge performance swings like this one. It's not a coincidence that it is happening at the trade deadline with every name on the roster being rumoured to go somewhere. Patience, lets not take down our leaders - it's not the ides of march - and there is a full month before we want to peak.

Holy overpayment Batman!
Laine is worth all 3 easily if only Duchene has a contract
