They went without a morning skate today to try and keep it under wraps, but it appears that Staal is going to be in tonight. Expected to play on a line with Micheal Ferland and Teuvo Teravainen.

No kidding? Should be a boost to the Canes.

I’m hoping for a fun/fast game with a good goalie dual

What were your thoughts on the Cherry comments?

great big meh from me on Cherry. He has to say controversial things to keep himself relevant. I do love how the team and the fanbase have embraced the "jerks" label though. Whether he meant to or not Don made the team a LOT of money.

No doubt, man. I’m down with them adopting the “jerks” label, too.

I wanted to get your insight because I know how plugged in to the Hurricanes you are. Def the Canes authority around here!

***UPDATE***

Per Pierre LeBurn Twitter:

The Panthers have asked Hoffman to submit a list o 10 teams he does not want to be traded to as part of his NTC.

LeBrun:”Doesn’t mean he will be traded but obviously teams are calling so Panthers need to be ready.”

Thanks man!

Was wrong on Staal, I guess, but they continue to say he should be back any day now.

Solid game last night, even with the weird officiating.

I'm sure he'll be back soon.

Man...it was a fun game, but not the outcome Panthers fans were hoping for. Great second period, but hard to win when you put yourself in that position with all the penalties - granted, some seemed kind of iffy, but either way, they got called.

Yep. And in the end the Panthers were presented with a strong opportunity to tie it up, but Mrazek went full Hasek for a bit there. That Florida team has some ridiculous hands. Just need some better depth players to really make a push.

Mrazek bounced back in the third. He's been really good this year. I kind of thought he would have a nice year because he was out to prove something. Kudos to him.

What's going on with Darling? Is he still taking time off from the A to assess things?

Yes, the Panthers have some serious talent, they just need a little more depth (like you said). They've been playing good lately (three in a row before yesterday), but it kind of went South last night with the penalties and putting themselves a tough spot.

As far as I'm aware Darling is still doing the "Personal Leave" thing, but I suspect that it will last until the end of the season or one of the goalies get hurt. His play even at the AHL level was so bad that he was hurting the team. Feel bad that it's ending this way because he seems like a good guy, but I think he's cooked.

That's what I was thinking, too.

I think he was suited best as a backup. Felt like he had trouble living up to the #1 role and large contract the Canes threw him.
