Jenson has good speed... and eats a ton of minutes. Wish him the best in Washington. He is just now coming into his best hockey of his career. But the Wings are rebuilding... and we need picks and youth. This was probably a good trade for both teams.

Okay... so what's your guys' take on Madison Bowey. Is he a solid NHLer ? Any upside to this kid? He can only improve the horrid defense in Detroit.

Can't say I've even heard Jensen's name, so price, for me seems high...
BUT Bowey hasn't exactly been stealing the show.

UPSIDE:

Youth and what comes with it - agility, less risk-averse than vets (ie: naive confidence), and POTENTIALLY above-avg skill-set. Decent shot?

DOWNSIDE:

From what I've seen, he hasn't really progressed as projected...take a look at how he played in the World Juniors for an example of where he was vs. peers at that point.

Obviously projection is a very imperfect science (or art?) and we have little insight into what factors on/off the ice play a role, but he hasn't really impressed that much. Could be he was thrown in too soon last season...him and Djoos were expected to fill-in for losing Schmidt.

He's really in his first FULL year though (correct me if I'm wrong), so Wings should be excited.

A 2nd Round pick seems a bit unnecessary?

I admittedly don't follow the Wings, and only really knew about Jensen because of the frequency his name came up in Leafs writing and podcasts. That consensus was he would be worth a 2nd or 3rd.. Detroit gets a better deal. But hey, it's win now for the Caps until Ovie retires.

As a Caps fan... you can certainly make the argument that a 2nd rounder was a little on the steep side. But Jensen will give you some depth on defense.. and if you guys go on a long playoff run and a defenseman gets injured he will be worth the pick IMO. He can step in and play and you will value his speed. Your GM is all in to win a cup now... so we'll see what happens.

Now it says we got a 5th as well...somewhat more even. I do agree though, this is all about potential for both sides. I think both management teams (and fanbases) should be content.

As much as I would like to give Bowey a positive review, I think we've seen what we will from him. He's got high offensive skills, but never seemed to get it together. He gets walked a lot on the rush. But he is young.
