Boys looked good last night, and was really surprised neither Engelland or Reaves started anything in the last few minutes. Engs gave Chucky a good shot in the corner and had him pinned for what felt like forever... figured something might start right then and there, but nada...
Playoffs should be interesting between these two!!!! |

I have to say-- Fantenberg looks fairly comfortable out there and I don't cringe when he goes for a puck like I do with Prout.
Brodie and Gio look... tired. As does Hamonic. Get Valymaki back here, and add Stone and Kylington to the line-up and get the main bodies rested for the playoffs. |

They didn’t really give Johnny much. He looked good but had two guys boxing him in every time he got the puck. Nice to see the 3M line have a huge game.
Rittich or Smitty tomorrow? I say go back to Ritter and get him rolling, we need figure out who’s taking the reins for playoffs. |

Yeah, they were playing a strong zone defence on Johnny for most of the night - he got shots, but I wouldn't say there was a ton of danger to a lot of them.
I've been saying it for a couple of weeks now, teams are keying on Johnny because he holds the puck so much. New zone entries, let Lindy bring it in, force the play away from Johnny a bit and get him open in space. |

Kinda throw this out there.put Jankowski and Bennett with gaudreau, and move Lindholm And monahan down. If it doesn’t work say after the first period then move back. It’s worth a try with the opponents up. |

I’d rather see Lindholm center Johnny and Bennett. |

Few comments:
1) Monahan - convinced he's injured at this point until proven otherwise. One specific play was being perfectly setup by Johnny in front of the net and he missed by a good foot from the inside slot. That's his prime shooting area and there's no way he wouldn't at least hit the net.
2) Mang - he was flying last night. Couple shifts I thought he was Johnny with his agility and plays. Exactly the kind of 4th line player that will give the Flames that playoff depth to make a run.
3) Fantenburg - Todd do you track games personally? I can think of at least 2-3 5v5 shot/pass attempts he had. One specifically, he wired a one-timer and it deflected off frolik in front of the net. Not hating, just wondering. |

That would work as well! I just think jankoski who has turned into a good two way center with good hands and reach. And Bennett is just a hard working gritty skilled winger. Both would complement gaudreau. And it would open space up for Jonny |

Highly doubt he's injured. Having him play through an injury at this point of the season is a completely asinine decision that I can't see them making.
They have a 100% chance of making the playoffs. Why would he be playing through an injury, especially if it was negatively affecting his game?

Yes completely fing stupid. What they need to do is start resting guys like gio for say a game here and their.and with all the bumps bruises haminic has had this year prob wouldn’t hurt resting him as well. And gio only because of his age. he has logged a lot of hard min this year |

I don't agree with sitting someone just to rest them. We're talking about elite athletes who know how to take care of their bodies. Giving them a game or even a week off is going to have zero impact on how fresh they are for the playoffs.
Of course, they should be doing everything they can to make sure everyone is as healthy as they can be, but rest just for rest is pointless. How does that conversation go? "Gio, you're a healthy scratch tonight." "WTF, why" "Because you're old." "..." |

Last year they let Monahan play with 4 injuries even though the season was lost. How did that make any sense?
Just about everybody except Prout has more points in the past month. They have 4.5 legitimate centres. Peters has mixed everything else up except the centres. What's to lose by getting him off the first line for a couple games whether he's hurt or not? |

HAha yeah it would be a different conversation then that. WHat they could prob do is practice -maintenance days off. Unfortunately in the sports world he is getting old. And we need gio as we’ll as our goalie tandem to be at their best. |

Well, yeah, rest for the sake of rest is pointless, but, to your point, these are pro athletes, they aren't going to ask to take a day off unless they are totally broken - coaches need to have that pulse and make some tough calls sometimes. I'd be fine seeing a bit of a rotation of rest leading up to the last week in the regular season, then get everyone going and into a playoff mindset... |

Because the gap between playing Vegas and any wildcard team is immense. Whoever has to play the Pacific showdown in the first round is going to be in rough shape for the second.
Not saying it's a major injury but he's not the same player and it's not a case of being tired. Looks like something is legitimately hampering him. |
