Goaltending first and foremost
Provy stepping up and the younger players with better play over all would be next in why they are winning, but mainly goaltending

Lindblom is quietly becoming one of the team's most valuable forwards.

He's generating a lot of quality shots and chances, handling business without the puck and seems to be able to play anywhere in the lineup.

1st thing Gordon did was redistribute ice time to younger players. Sanheim and Lindblom in particular immediately moving up the lineup and taking on larger roles.

2nd thing coming from I believe it was Lindblom during intermission last night was Gordon made tweaks to the system in particular the neutral zone helping them to turn pucks over and attack with better and more consistent speed

Watching the phantoms the past couple years I was not impressed with the structure they played with. Most of the foundation was set when he got here but he seems to have done a good job tweaking things and the players seem to have real good communication with him

Indeed.... slow start for his career, but I expect him to pot close to 20 next year

When you see an unheralded rookie produce and play at the level he is playing at, it bodes well for his and the teams future. He's a good player now with the chance to get even better.

Sanheim and Myers are a world of difference compared to an Amac or the prior D. They are patient with the puck and use their size and skating to make plays. I think this is letting Provy play his game, knowing he has quality support.

Love lindbolm, plays the game the right way, underrated passer

Lindblom has been a beast for I'd say the last 20 games.. Sanheim and Myers look very good as you say. I've got to think Ghost is hurt or something, and expect he'll bounce back next year. If so, look out.

It's hard not to get excited about Myers.

You see he has size, can skate and ability. So many little plays that he makes or almost makes at a high speed.

If Ghost can bounce back next season the D should be fun to watch.

That play he made where he made a mistake and the Sens player going to other way with a potential break away was great. Speed and reach and took the puck away without taking a penalty.

Do you think that Gordon is using a different structure with the Flyers that they did with the Phantoms? The idea that the Phantoms under Gordon had no system, was something that spawned from uninformed sources on here. Same as the Flyers don't handle young players correctly.

This makes me wonder how many other players with his skill set go undrafted. He is a top 4 Dman... and we got him for nothing. Moves like signing Myers and drsfting lindblom in the 5th round really push this franchise ahead of schedule.
After a horrible start to the season I am happy to say I look forward to next season

Is it really as simple as that?

I seem to recall even when they were winning under Hakstol a lot of times, the games were not fun to watch.

Gordon seems to have them playing a little structurally different. More offensive zone pressure, better cycling recently, better team defense while not collapsing offensively.

Whatever Gordon is doing, he seems to be pushing the right buttons. Gotta respect that.

No, but it is the main cog in the wheel. IM a firm believer that winning starts from the net out. You get solid goaltending, the defense starts to relax and make better plays, and then the forwards start to be better etc etc.

I see less panic when they get hemmed in because they believe the goalie will have their backs. And as a result they don't get hemmed in as often because the panic isn't there.

Dont get me wrong, I like that the kids are taking bigger bites. That is partly a trust thing with the coach and partly because they are ready for it.

We can rip Hakstol for that a bit, but we have to remember that Gordon also had a say and an opinion on whether some of these kids were ready earlier in the season and he concurred with the organization that maybe they weren't.

There is definitely more talent, and that helps a lot.

that’s a good question for the varones and Lindbloms of the world. Based on articles I’ve read the players have really appreciated the open lines of communication with him. Seems to be the biggest difference. He himself has embraced the idea that players want to know the “why” of things their told to do. He related earlier in his coaching career he wouldn’t entertain that.

I think ghost having a steady quality partner will help him get back to form. I like ghost with Myers. Let them build chemistry.

Provy Sanheim
Ghost Myers

Not bad

I like Hagg, he does a lot with what he has and I think he will still get little better

Watching Myers play and just looking at his raw physical skills, it really boggles the mind how he wasn't drafted. Big, long reach, skates well. Who knows.
