Yes it is for this site. Click bait pays the bills around here and based on how successful these projected standings have been the last few years at trolling fans on this site, it seems only logical to continue with the practice. |

Yes, it is hard to make up ground in the NHL. Just look at the Flyers. They were one of the worst teams in hockey through early January, but for almost two months now they have the best record in the NHL...
Since December 31st:
Hurricanes 23-7-2
Lightning: 23-6-2
Flyers 19-10-3
I mean, even if you only want to count from January 11th on, then the Flyers are 18-5-2 vs the Canes 18-6-2 and the Lightning's 19-5-2.
So..... no? |

How did the Canes go from being projected to have 90 points yesterday to suddenly having 98?
...and the Flyers are going to get points in 15 straight games, finishing the season 11-0-4? - BINGO!

I keep saying that final wc spot wont be in high 90s neither mtl or columbus os playing well enough to hit high 90s. Flyers just need to win 2 more games than mtl or cbj for the rest of the season |

So yesterday, canes were predicted to be at 101 points. They win, and are now predicted to be at 98 points. How does a win in a max 2 points system have a team drop 3 points?... |

To even hit 95 points the Flyers have to go 9-3-1 or 8-2-3
4 regulation losses the rest of the year and the Flyers are essentially cooked.
Currently they're most likely to finish the season with somewhere around 90 points. |

And only a few days ago he had them at 90 points, missing the playoffs. |

Eklund: "Probably NO, Possibly Yes" How the Oilers COULD make the Playoffs. Buzz@3 - Eklund
The entire reason I put together the Projected Final Standings was because of this. I know many of these sites don’t even consider strength of schedule, who these teams are actually playing, how they are currently playing, injured players, teams who may be playing for nothing in the final week of the season, a team’s history versus their opponents, how many back to back games they are playing, the amount of travel, the amount of pressure to make the playoffs in certain markets, if they will likely be facing a backup goalie because the other team is playing a back to back scenario...etc.
Any reputable site will consider all of these things, especially now with the legality of sports books in the States |

Sportsclubstats literally runs every possible record for every team the remainder of the season and weights the likelihood of each team finishing with their specific number of points based on how many times said record is actually possible.
Basic math but done on a massive scale that gets increasingly accurate with every game because there are less and less possible combinations. |

Right now there are 8.2 billion different possible final standings for the NHL.
Only 355 million of those possible final standings have the Flyers finishing with 95 or more points.
That's just over 4% chance. |
