Another point earned in OT loss to Edmonton

"The Rangers’ struggles in overtime (now 1-9) continued, and let’s face it, this is often a matter of the Rangers not having the top-end skill of its opponent. Dave Maloney, who usually hits it out of the park, homered again when he noted that their last three OT losses have come at the hands of Draisaitl from McDavid, Victor Hedman from Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, and Evgeny Kuznetsov from Alex Ovechkin. That’s a seven-man NHL All-Star team, folks."

Kucherov and Kuznetsov outliers when it comes to how to find and keep all stars...

3-3 OT benefits the skilled players with more room. Not really rocket science. Rangers don't have much of that, hence why they suck in ot.

Agree about Miller, let him learn more about being a defenseman in college, since he is still pretty new to it.

What roster changes would make you think the rebuild is over next year (or any year, really)?

Well I won't root for them to lose, but I don't see them being competitive next year.

Hayes looks sad in the Peg...bring him back next year and let Kreider captain their friendship to wins

It won't be over next year. I'd like for the Rangers to trade Kreider. Not sign Panarin. Let the contracts of Smith, Shattenkirk and Staal end. Stockpile the prospect system by being bad. Use the 16.7 million, (25.2 million if you let Lundqvist walk) with the rising cap then start spending.

Quoting Tom:

I don’t see the reason to wait on spending...because by the time they’re good again, Panarin for example, will hopefully be entrenched as the go to guy, ala Jagr post lockout. They wouldn’t be old or a contract drag, then spend as more money comes off the books. I agree not to go nuts during any summer, especially this one coming up

As much as you want to tank for 3 years, the org is not going to do that. Frankly, I’d be pretty shocked if Panarin, or Skinner (a big UFA ticket) isn’t a Ranger next season

Pretty much agree with everything you said, but I'd at least like to see compete out of this team next year. If we don't do anything stupid for 2 years, our cap situation looks really rosy.

Were not Ottawa by any stretch. They aren’t gonna be bad enough to be the worst team, they have legit players. Ottawa and Jersey are god awful right now. Teams are just a lot worse for us to tank and lose enough games

If our young guys show development, we honestly should hover around 500. Not a contender by any stretch, but they should rack up enough wins to stay out of the top 5 of the lottery.

What the hell is that Maloney quote and why the in the world would anyone praise it? Do other teams not have to face those players?

He is talking about the Rangers not having any real top end players. It makes sense, but its like saying water is wet

Yeah that seems like something odd for a writer to praise. "Bad team is bad and struggles against speedy superstar players with lots of open ice" isn't really an eye-opening observation

That major was earned. Can't elbow people in the face, then draw blood as a result.
