Justin Lowe: Big Week Just Got Bigger
The Hawks were able to squeeze out a point against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. It was a game that they weren’t able to get their offence in gear; full marks to the Canucks for playing them well.

Not getting both points in that game just made this week a lot more difficult if your scoreboard watching with hopes of the Hawks making the playoffs.

Definitely feeling the excitement as well! Kane and Toews played a lot against Van, I suspect that trend continues also. I wouldn't mind Murphy or Forsling getting more time, they both have played long stretches of great games. Koekkoek has been good of late too, I didn't care for him at first, I'm liking him more. I'd be upset if Crow wasn't given a breather here and there, but he has been good. Why not put Perlini with Toews and Kane and put Kahun back with Strome and Adb?

I really miss Caggiula!

I wouldn't be overly surprised if it comes out that Cagguila had some broken ribs; if that is the case - it would be pretty much impossible to play for awhile. I think in my case it took about 3 months to even do any meaningful skating (and a lot of that was due to the breathing).

I doubt it was just a concussion.

Grab the Philly 2 points. Then the weekend double header is massive.

If Avs and Hawks split both are still longshots to get in.

If Wash beats Minny, as they should. Avs and Hawks both have a shot to be neck and neck with Minny for 8th. If one of the teams grabs 3 or 4 points.

After such a crappy year. Be sweet to wake up Monday morning within a point or 2 of 8th.

Go Hawks!!!!

Yes. Getting ahead of myself. Coyotes are playing well. Still. Monday COULD see us within a point or two of 8th whoever sits there. And with 7 or 8 games to play from there, a couple points can be made up....makes last 2 weeks a sprint to the finish.
Of the 4 battling. Ari. Col. Minny. Hawks. Hawks are as good as any of them. None are Cup contenders, but we absolutely have a glimmer of hope. Our chance at a high pick is long gone. May as well grab 8th.

Of the 4 teams, I think the Hawks ability to score is better than Min/Col/Ari. Of the 4 teams, I think the Hawks ability to stop the opponent from scoring is worse than the other 3 teams. I think it's going to come down to whether or not Crawford is playing at the top of his game - if he is the Hawks have a chance - if not, start evaluating who to draft in the 12-15 range.

Maybe...was reading in the Athletic or Herald today that the Drake is still in concussion protocol.

Like Ty said though, the fact that Rakell got a free pass for the hit, lends further question and doubt to the league policy.

I'll tell you what, 35, I am happy to read such a positive outlook! It could happen - that's why they play the games.

Please don't get me started. For proof, have Hayden lay that same check on Landeskog or McKinnon on Saturday. Wait for the results

PE, what are the odds that the Hawks finish 12-14 worst in the standings and get the #1 pick?

Proves the NHL has it in for the Blackhawks!

On a serious note. The obvious rule for hits to the head, hits from behind and then additional punishment if a player is injured as a result of the hit would be to have a standing rule in place. A Hit from behind or hit to the head is classified as minor, moderate, hard and dangerous. A defined suspension should be in place for the hit and the classification of the hit. Then add in in additional suspension time if the victim of the hit is injured. So a minor hit from behind may be one game but a dangerous hit is seven games. Then increment the suspension based on repeat offenders. So a second dangerous hit is 20 games, the third 50 games and so on.

The problem with the above and the only time I will get into conspiracy theories is what if Patrick Kane or McDavid had two dangerous its to the head in one season? Alexander Ovechkin has hit numerous guys from behind and many could be classified as dangerous, but he's managed to stay away from a long suspension. I think the reason the NHL will not put a defined suspension in place is to protect the star players from any team.

Responding to the previous comments to my post from the other blog. Sorry I wasn't aware of the movie reference. I wasn't trying to be insulting thanks for clarifying. I should have back read.

No worries. Somehow I got the title wrong, despite picturing Belushi delivering the line.

In a way it's nice that the team has something to play for. Is it like a playoff series, not really, but these are very meaningful games and we get to see how they battle.

The penalty on Kruger gave a ton of momentum to the Canucks and this is where this team struggles in flipping the ice back over into their favor.

After that horrible game vs the Kings they have been playing/ battling much better.

Very exciting time of year. Very thankful they are still within reach. Whether they make the playoffs or not, this will be a huge year for this organization moving forward. Meaningful games now is what a lot of the younger players on this team will benefit from. Hawks have a lot of good pieces moving forward. Keep trimming the fat and filling glaring holes within the lineup over the summer. 2019/20 will be an exciting season.

>>Speaking of Drake Caggiula, I’m not entirely sure what his status is. All I know is when there aren’t any updates being offered and he’s not around the team, it’s not a good sign. I still can’t believe Rackell was not punished for that hit.<<<

I read he is skating but not cleared for practice. I agree it was 5 min major plus a game misconduct. He ran him with his back and numbers clearly visible. But hey it wasn't a direct head shot...the glass took care of that. So it goes NHL wheel of fortune discipline and player safety. Should have been 3-5 with that jagbag's history...
