Are you saying you don't know the difference in skill between Shaw and Caligula? I can play this game, too.

Again. If it is so easy, how come everyone doesn't do it? Come on

- Elbows15

It's about WANT TO....some guys with all the skill in the world won't go near the blue paint. Its as simple as that. Shaw had no problems doing it. He has overachieved as a player and props to him for realizing his role and how he could stay in the show LT.

Go watch a practice. All these guys can carry a puck up ice into the zone. If they couldn't they wouldn't be in the NHL or hell in the AHL.

Right. Could be worse. Could be Tallon making the picks

Ah....right....Talon couldn't draft anyone. Horrible GM.

If you’re referring to 9/11 - that was 17 1/2 years ago.

The Hawks fans cheering during the anthem goes back to the first Gulf war in 1991 at the All Star game, IIRC.

My issue (beside playing the anthem at every mundane sporting event) is with Cornellison’s overly dramatic, over-the-top, slow but shouted performance - saying “hey, look at me doing this”.

Manufactured flag waving isn’t patriotism.

I know because outside of Teuvo they were poor picks. Teuvo is highly skilled as we're seeing in Carolina, but was deemed expendable by the front office geniuses.

Colliton said a decision was made in December/January that the only way his team was going to win was to out score people. Thought that was an interesting revelation, one that JC knows won't fly long term.

Hawks have looked decent defensively many nights, but still way too many breakdowns. Example, Gus scores a nice goal to open the scoring last night. Shift or two later, he's trying to go end to end, coughs up the puck and the Flyers get a breakaway. And yet he never misses a shift.

I really like our young coach. He's bright AF, love his demeanor and thoughtfulness on most matters, but he's got to drop the hammer, bench idiocy for a period, and get this team to limit bullpoop defensive breakdowns.

- philco28

I want to say it was against Arizona in 2008-09 season right after they fired Savard that Sharp and Kane both made stupid plays and Q sat them.

I agree on the defensive breakdowns. Keith's inability to clear the zone led to the 2nd Philly goal last night.

Their entire D system is horrific. Fun as hell to watch as the games are wide open, but it's not built for consistent winning.

Yeah.....the artificial air to wave the flag at the UC and the point is over the top. Don't forget about the bling on that hand as well.

I was at the game last night (my second game of the season), and I loved the playoff atmosphere at the start. The UC was rocking. A couple of my observations, take them for what you want:

-88 looks gassed. He has carried this team all year.
-19 looks great. He is a beast in the corners of the offensive zone.
-2 looks like he has lost his hands. He seemed to really struggle making crisp passes, especially in the defensive zone. Part of getting old I guess.
-Not much from 12, although it's clear that he and 17 have amazing chemistry (great trade by the way).

In general, it seemed like the team didn't have that extra "push" as the game wore on. Not out of it yet though! Go Hawks.

Hawks traded up/ swapping first rounders with San Jose (27th), and the 62nd pick
- LAHawk

Thanks. I found another example where the Hawks traded its 26th to Dallas for their 29th. That's when they drafted Jokiharju and the Stars took Oettinger. Chicago also got a 3rd rounder.

It was always a stretch to think they were.
But IF they sweep the Avs this weekend, they're in range again.

And you have to pay extra for your last sentence.

Meh. To all your young jokes, which you've recently gone 0-2 on btw. Just par for the course.

What's that new popular term I heard recently - "pessimism porn" - yeah, seems that's not in short supply around here lately.

Lately? Half of the board constantly dogged the team thru the run to at least the last 2 Cups. It is appropriately nicknamed The Board of Doom.

yeah, that's ridiculous

I also agree on kane. I saw that stink eye he gave after the Canuck OT goal and he knows the value of the points they aren't getting now.

But hey......it's all good.

Im still figuring out how one gets drafted, makes it to the NHL, when "many" can't carry the puck into the zone. Must be great passers.

Like almost every other GM he missed big on a couple of draft picks? Are we letting the scouts off the hook on those as well?

Nope. Just pointing exactly what you said since some still love to rip Talon. Lets remember as well, Talon didn't get the resources that Bowman has in regards to scouts, etc until very late in his career. Big difference and why this team sucked for so long.

Red Sox reup Chris Sale for 5 years at $30M per year. That's about 37.5% of the cap for one player. Oh, wait, wrong sport.

I'm still trying to figure out how a Blackhawk fan from 2009 to 2016 was more concerned about what Stan or McDonough said, or what the post goal song was then what was happening on the ice during the greatest period of hockey in Blackhawk history.

Same thing drafting Beach with #11 said about the Builder - that drafting kids can make any GM look stoopid.

Overall, the Builder did ok in Chicago, not so much in his stint in FL. Yearning for him is silly, imo.
