I think his loyalty to Hakstol played a part. But at the time, the team was playing boring, losing, uninspired hockey, fans were not attending, droves of STHs were leaving, and the product was just not selling. Hextall refused to part with any of his assets to try to improve the product, and, coupled with other things like a much-disliked coach, ended up losing his job. But I don't think it came down to an ultimatum to fire Hakstol.

I disagree with the narrative that Hextall refused to part with any of his assets to try and improve the product. If those deals were available, why didn't Fletcher make them? What is far more likely is that there weren't any good deals to make that didn't require a vast over payment. If that was the case then Hextall was right not to make them. We also don't know that Hasktol was much disliked.

Agree. On both counts.

But still, I don't get how people don't see a middle grounds between "don't trade any prospects/picks at all" and "Trade all of our prospects/picks." If there's a trade out there that will make the team better both in the present and future, whether or not it involves picks, then it should be a trade that is considered.

- jmatchett383

That's because this idea that you have that anyone thinks there isn't a middle ground is something that you invented.

Yup. There are moves that can be made that don't involve trading picks for 35 yr old players which is the extreme a few guys like to take around here whenever you suggest moving picks/prospects/young players.

We have a number of goalie prospects behind Hart. There is no way we really need more than two of them at this point. O'Brien is so far down the road and we already have Coots, Patrick and Frost among others in front of him. We have a number of pretty decent wing prospects. They can stand to make a substantial move or two without "selling the farm".

Personally I really would not be surprised to see O'Brien being moved this off-season. Our centers are young enough and we've got enough of them in the system that turning him into something else that can help sooner makes a lot more sense to me.

or we could sit on O'Brien and let him build up value and instead trade players like Ghost

Im presently evaluating a scenario of signing Panarin allows them to trade ghost and TK for a player like Trouba (*or a Dman of that ilk)
- KINGKENZO

Pass on that trade.

Why weren't any of those moves made before the trade deadline by Fletcher?

Selling Ghost now would be selling low I think.

That said I think a package involving the two of them could get you something pretty nice.

Either way I think Fletch is going to make a big splash or two this off-season.

We weren't really buying at the deadline and there is a bigger market in the off-season for prospects.

The context is Hextall was unwilling to move future assets to improve the team. That's the narrative that is being floated. My question is if those moves were available, why didn't Fletcher make them? Why wouldn't the Flyers have been interested in improving the team at the deadline? To me the answer is obvious.

Why are folks talking about trading TK? If you believe his stock will never be higher and trade high, ok, but to say he isn’t needed is insane. The guy is heart and soul and clutch. Can’t have enough of that type of player. Reminds me of Richards.

I probably wouldn't trade him but everyone has their price.

That said, it would have to be a pretty good return to move him right now. Until prospects come up and prove themselves we aren't exactly stacked at RW

Some people believe that the Flyers should trade Gostisbehere, who is already signed to a great contract, has put up a 60 point season and finished top 10 in Norris trophy voting along with a 22 year old 20+ goal scorer for a shiny new toy in Trouba. For some reason. Now I like Trouba as an all around player more than Gostisbehere, plus he is right handed but he's not that much better to also command Konecny. Plus, Trouba needs to be signed to a new deal.

Agree with what you say. But there were even office workers that were quoted as being “Relieved” when he was let go. He apparently had some personality problems in just every day to day things. That may seem trivial but getting along with coworkers is really important in the long run. How many people that worked there were really sorry to see Hextall go?

I don't know that supporting Hextall publicly would be good for a current employee's long term future with the team. I will assume there is truth that he wasn't easy to work with. So, considering that he was there about 4.5 years, these things don't happen overnight. His boss needs to have some accountability for letting it fester to the point people don't like working there.

Far too much is being made of issues like this which are really unsubstantiated. I think there is some truth to it but in different nuances if that is the correct word. None of that would've mattered if the team was winning earlier in the season. This is all simply about Holmgren and Scott losing patience with the teams progress.

What could be bad about an unvaccinated person visiting the ICU or new mother portion of a hospital?
- jmatchett383

Aww you guys think anti vaxxers carry diseases that only vaccinated people can get?
Explain the science of how unvaxxed kids carry diseases without getting them but transfer them to other people. I'm excited to hear your answer (gets popcorn, organic of course )

Hextall had his faults and I am sure some of the things that came out were true. I also read a lot of stuff from anonymous sources which is bothersome to me. I don't blame Hextall for trying to keep things private. Look at how the Hakstol firing went down, that was a mess.
- FlyerFan16

The hak and hex firing was a mess. There has to be more to it for things to just go down like they did

The way Hak firing was handled should be an embarrassment to the organization.

Has any unvaxxed kid ever shot up a school? Just curious. I'd imagine that would be advertised all over TV.

I was embarrassed when that went down. The first thing I thought is "(frank) nobody is going to sign here now"
But I am eating crow and happy with the way things turned around

I am not convinced the Flyers wouldn't be in the playoffs had they not fired Hextall.
