Signing an injury prone potential UFA in Erik Karlsson long term at his market value price would be too costly a Rangers move while under a rebuild, unless Shatty is first either bought out, or traded likely through necessary means in retaining part of his remaining 2 years, $6.65M annual contract. Karlsson would improve their offense and puck possession, but so would to some extent a reunion with Hayes at center at a lower price, along with his additional multi game contribution roles on the defensive end.
Despite playing for a top Western Cup contender, Karlsson has once again been "hit or miss" while playing in 29 Sharks wins of his 52 total games played, and also being sidelined for 22 thus far due to injury. His numbers depict best his contributions when broken out by those coming in the 29 wins and 23 losses he has been in their lineup for this season.
E.K. In Lineup For 29 of Sharks 43 Wins: 3-G, 31-A, 34-PTS, (+33) +/- Rating
EK In Lineup For 23 of Sharks 31 Losses: 0-G, 11-A, 11-PTS, (-30) +/- Rating
Furthermore, Karlsson has been either a (+2) or higher in 10 Sharks games played, but a (-2) or lower in 10 other games as well. That also includes him playing to a (+3) or higher in 4 of them, while also being a (-3) or lower in another 4 of those 20 combined games alone of his 52 total played in. |

So in other words teams win when their best players play well and lose when they don't |

That "expert" opinion of your's wasn't the meaning I was implying there with Karlsson, who has always had his problems on the defensive side of the game throughout his career.
The point was that unless the Rangers can first depart with Shatty's contract through one of those two means I mentioned, signing Karlsson to his expected market value price would not be wise financially speaking while under a rebuild, with Karlsson's offensive contributions being diminished by his Shatty like defensive game woes.
Panarin and Hayes would suit better if they become UFA's, although there is also a good shot that they could consider extending an offer sheet to one or more top potential RFA's this summer. |

The Rangers tragic number is down to 2 points to become officially eliminated from postseason contention.
Tom is preparing to celebrate, although to a minimum extent only, while awaiting for still greater tanking means to follow, though with limited hope to finish lower than 5th lowest ranked than today's 6th ranked status, despite having 7 tougher games remaining of their 9 for the season.
With Anaheim being their last likely hope to finish lower than, I can see up to 4 more Ducks wins in their remaining 7 games, which in dated order are:
S.J.-(H) tonight, @L.A., @VAN, @CGY, @EDM, CGY-(H), L.A.-(H) |

Karlsson would regress under Ruff.
Face it, we're stuck with Shat, we're not buying him out, and I don't think he's going to get close to $6.5 on his next contract with whatever team he signs with. I don't see the Rangers resigning him. I suppose every team will be in on EK, but we're too far away to consider him, let's develop from within. If we signed EK, no way would I pair him with Shat.
This should thrill Tom, no buyouts, and wait until Staal, Smith and Shat are off the books to spend (claiming the Panarin exception) and see what happens with our prospects until then. Coincidentally, Hank will also be a UFA. |

Jimmmy let’s Go!!!
If Colorado wins the lottery trade proposal
Colorado gets: 5th overall, 1st round pick from Winnipeg, and Kreider
Rangers: 1st overall Pick |

I could see the rangers trading up, but whoever gets their hands on Hughes isn’t trading that pick unfortunately. Maybe if we pick 2-3 they’ll entertain it, but not 5
I really like Cozens from what I read, big great skating center is always a necessity so he wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize.

Does anyone know how mnny NHL teams who've actually "traded up" in top ten picks? Unlike NFL, its seems very unlikely to happen..no? |

It doesn’t happen in hockey until mid first rd.
Only way to get Hughes is to win the lotto. End of story. I still have hope that they fix it for the NYR. Big market, the next great player, they’ve never had one...stars are aligned |

It'll be fixed all right... Rangers will pick 8th. That's my prediction. Hope I'm wrong. |

4th is Cozens so that seems like the hardest spot to be in at the moment. They won’t be there most likely
1-2-3-5-6-7 are most likely. I do like how the NHL does the order, pretty fair way to do things |

Sedin it happened Schneider was a top 10 too. I wouldn’t move up from 5 to 1. Hughes isn’t good enough for that proposal |

I don't think there is anyway we catch the Sens or Kings. Devils and Wings will be tough too. Pretty much thinking the best they can do is 5th and then by some miracle win the lottery. Might as well set our sights on someone after Hughes and Kakko. |
