Who realistically do we wish to hire to replace Gomez next offseason? - bgainesDM
You probably would do a better job. you available?
I mean if someone sucks at their job, and he does because the PP is laughable especially with the talent on PP1 your saying we should keep him on in that capacity because there aren't any replacements out there? Come on DM that's weak. |

You have to figure Barry and Lou are not blind to this. As much as Lou loves Gomez, his power play schemes have been beyond atrocious. I'm sure Lou's "evaluations" this season doesn't end at the players. |

Honestly, I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed yet. |

Do you buy Stevie Y has interest in the Ranger job? I thoght the Wings job was a done deal? - ses111
I've been away for a few days but I hadn't seen that. I was under the impression he wanted to be back home in Michigan with his family, so that seems pretty unlikely. Maybe the Rangers threw a metric ton of money at him to try and change is mind though, who knows. |

They asked Barry at one point a few weeks ago.. he said he thought one of the issues the last few years was the lack of consistency in regards to coaches. basically said he was keeping all the coaches in tact till end of season... sadly. |

The reality is that nobody here really knows who the right hire is. "What assistant coach should they hire then" isn't really something that fans are going to have an answer to, for a litany of reasons, and that doesn't invalidate anyone's point that something needs to change with the way this team's PP is run.
What we do know is that Scott Gomez's PP is not working with this team and that it is an issue that needs to be addressed.
It's nice to be able to have faith, in both the head coach and management, that it will be addressed. |

Larry Brooks thinks Steve has interest. Hopefully this is Larry just wishing it to be true. |

At some point you have to look at the players as the problem. They always look to make the perfect pass whether its on the PP or 5 on 5. I don't like Gomez but at the same time I would like to think he is not telling the players to just pass the puck around to each other in slo-motion and look for the perfect shot. At the same time if you have to fire a coach to wake them up then so be it but I'm not sure a new PP coach is all of a sudden going to make a bunch of pass first forwards into shooting machines . All I know something has to be done in the offseason to fix this problem. It pretty much cost them the division this year |

OK, I took it the wrong way then.
Bottom line is Gomez needs to go and the PP needs to be addressed. |

I agree Vukota. I think the players need to take a lot of the blame. This team does have a lot of pass first players. You cannot replace all the players so if a new PP coach is needed so be it. |

Well sure, but you can't fire the 5 most offensively skilled players on the team
I'm not a big "coach fixes everything and players aren't responsible for anything" guy, but the reality is that the PP stinks and they've been incapable of fixing it during the season. They'll surely go offense-shopping in the off-season and that should help, but if the coach in charge of it can't find a way to to mold the players into a functioning PP unit then it's probably time to make a change. Doesn't necessarily mean it's "his fault" but we're obviously not replacing the 5-10 guys that play on the PP. |

That's pretty much what I said. Gomez will be the fall guy because that's the way it works with coaches but I blame the players more then him at this point |

Meh, the same way Trotz has changed the mind set of the players to play a defensive system and getting the guys to buy in and showing incredible results. Gomez, after a year of running the PP and really nothing has changed even when the personal on the PP units were changed up you have to at some point say the PP Scheme isn't working with this group and or they are certainly not buying into what Gomez is selling. The results or lack there of show it.
Honestly the PP was better in the first month of the season before Gomez really had a lot of time to screw it up |

Everyone shares in the blame, but yeah you can't fire the players
You always hear a lot of talk that Scotty Bowman wasn't the "best" coach, but he was the best at knowing how to motivate players and relate/relay information to all different types of personalities. If Gomez can't say/do the right things to get the guys to un(frank) themselves then they need to go find someone that can. |
