if Spencer Knight is still on the board when Florida picks I can't see them passing him up

Hey Jimbro,

Is he pretty much a “can’t miss”? I read he’s really solid. I’m just thinking that the first area that needs to be addressed is the defense.

Especially if they’re able to shore up the goalie situation with a combo of ideally Bob and Lu (if he doesn’t retire and takes a backup role) and have Monty waiting in the wings.

What are your thoughts on Knight?

I think he could be the next Carey Price, I really wouldn't be surprised if Detroit grabbed him at 6, but if he's still there at #13, Florida would be wise to take him

Oh, wow...that’s a pretty nice comparison.

Hmm...let’s say he falls to FLA and they take him. Maybe they look to improve then defense with later picks or through a trade(s)?

You’ve introduced a new element into the draft thinking. Haha.

It's not that I'm against defensemen with above average offensive skills, I'd really just like a few who can actually, you know, play defense and clear the zone. I really don't care if they put up points, I'm more concerned with how many goals against they help prevent.
I don't know enough about any of these kids to state an opinion of who they should take. But, if Knight is close to the things I've been hearing about him, they should grab him. They seem to be in "win now" mode (wow!! never said that about FL before), I wonder if they might use the pick for more of an immediate return.

Hey Rats,

You know me, I want a defensive defenseman, too

One of those reports talks about how Broberg is very responsible in his own zone and doesn't cough the puck up. There's also something to the effect that he tends to look for the 'right' play and not the high-risk one, if I remember correctly.

This guy has the size and if he has a defensive mind (hopefully), I'd be curious to see what he can do.

Sounds like the pick to make if they don't see Knight as "Price-like". I wonder if they might trade the pick for immediate help on D.

They plucked him from misery in NJ being buried on third line and let him play top line minutes with two of the best young players in the league. It was a another chance for Jagr to shine (that he would've been given nowhere else) and he once again became the story of the league.
