So far, the Avs look like a pygmy trying to wrestle an Amazonian woman.

One offseason didn't make the Flames superior to the Oilers. Ever since BT became the GM the team has drafted and developed well, made smart signings, and were smart with their money (barring some exceptions such as Troy Brouwer, but at least they took the heat and bought him out). They've made smart trades - at the time the Mike Smith trade was super good and the Hanifin trade was awesome. The past few years have been marked by good, solid moves by the Flames. Hamonic trade. Dougie trade. Drafting Tkachuk. Obviously there's some luck involved but my point is the Oilers problems run way deeper than anything one offseason could fix. It's not like Edm is one player away. In this league building a contender is a process that often takes years to come together, like it did this year from the Flames. Where do you think their depth scoring came from? Good drafting in all 7 rounds - I read somewhere that a super small percentage of the Oilers' picks outside of the 1st round over the past decade are still with the org - as well as smart depth moves and like Spencer Foo and Curtis Lazar deals have helped create internal competition and a winning environment in Calgary. Its no coincidence Lazar has turned his career around in Stockton. I'm going on a tangent here but my point is Edmonton can't right the ship with their current management team. They have to change the status quo, because you can't build a good team with the organizational incompetence the Oilers have. THAT'S the problem.
