Playoff quotes are great so far this year:

M. Tkachuk was asked if he had any words of wisdom for his teammates who hadn't played in the playoffs - "No. I got swept in my first playoffs".

Maroon was asked how tired he was when he was battling on the game winning goal? - "Do I look tired? No. Ok."

Pierre Mcguire commented before the CBJ/TB game one that Sergei Bobrovsky "looked shaky in warmups". Huh?

Tkachuk quote on the goal review in game 1 for the Flames/Avs -"Gio went over and talked to the refs. Then, the iPad went out. Then they tried to call Toronto and that didn’t work. And then the iPad turned on again." It appears the NHL needs some tech upgrades just like Enterprise Center.

This may be the most disciplined Blues team I’ve ever seen. They need to make Peggy pay on the scoreboard for being so undisciplined...

That was a poor call on Thomas. If you let all the other stuff go in the Jets zone, you have to let that go too. Consistency is all i ask for in officiating.

I don’t disagree... that said, Peggy is taking advantage of their power play opportunities... what about the Blues?

2-0 status with a PP and a PK should make all of us

Jammer they let all that slashing and late hits pretty much go but call Bortz for a deserved interference call.

What it shows to me is the Jets are insecure about their ability to beat the Blues.

The digging up old tweets and running the goalie. Schiefle ran him, maybe not full on but he knew what he was doing. He's taken a lot of dumb penalties so far.

About time to get shots off quicker especially on the pp.

Jets always going for the big hits--doesn't work in today's NHL. You have to make sure to have coverage to make a big hit bc it creates open ice against often as not.

The score keeper is not being accurate at all.

Do the Jets look like the Blues of years ago to you? Bad penalties, getting distracted by hitting and punishing, etc.

This is an age-old NHL problem (for teams that don’t play the style) dating back to at least the Broad Street Bullies. Teams that play on the physical side get away with penalties that their opponents don’t.

But most of those teams, like the Blues of prior years, end up losing.

Yeah, I don’t know...

LA Kings: Cup Champs 2012 & 2014
Ducks: Cup Champs 2007
Sharks: Cup finalists 2016
Predators: Cup finalists 2017

All of those teams had a great mix of skill and size, though all of them played with a very physical edge...

It's one thing to make hits as part of a play but it's a whole different thing to chase hits, taking yourself out of the play to make a hit. Jets are doing the latter imho. Blues used to do that imho, except for the run up to the sharks.

Teams that play with a physical edge always run the risk of undisciplined play. A lot of times it happens when teams are either overly excited or when results aren’t going their way. It’d be interesting to look at all of the teams listed above, especially in the first round, to look at their penalty numbers...

Btw- I totally agree with your premise. We’ve seen it season over season. First round playoff series are often determined by which team can be the most disciplined and not let the emotion of the playoffs cause undisciplined play.

My original comment was that teams that play a more physical style get away with more penalties than those who don’t. Byfuglien cross checking Perron in the lower back after the play? Hits that end with a player’s hands up in the opponent’s face? All stuff that is a-Ok if you’re hitting early and often. But doing that as retaliation? Penalized every time.

The second checking from behind penalty that O’Reilly drew last night? He sold it. As soon as he felt the contact, his legs suddenly buckled. It seems like that’s how teams have to deal with overly aggressive hitting in today’s NHL. I bet, if Perron would’ve flopped after the post-whistle crosscheck, Byfuglien probably would’ve been penalized...

Not a fan. Besides, the NHL Playoffs are much more fun when I don’t have a horse in the race. Much less stress involved. I aged like a two term US President between 2008-2016.

There have been psychological studies on this. One result I saw found that an non-allegiance fan got more enjoyment out of an OT playoff win than the fan of the team that won.

It's only 2 games in and my heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest. Droogie needs a bit of the old moloko plus.
