You're drastically over selling. Provorov is a really good young defenseman but he is no where close to Norris trophy level. You're out of your mind if you think Provorov can get 8 X 8. - MJL
If he had another strong year, he would be in Norris discussion. Maybe not a finalist but on the radar.
I'd love for us to sign him for less. I think his team will be looking for around 8 x 8.
I'm not overselling. Just trying to see both sides. |

Certainly by Flyers fans who think he's worth an 8 X 8 contract. He is a very good young player who is only going to get better but he is not as good as many think he is. 8M contracts and the Norris trophy being talked about. Some need to reassess.

I'd probably move Patrick while there's still a whiff of the 2nd-overall luster left on him.
Prov, I'd be scared to move right now. All the dmen on the roster (except for Gudas) are still semi-?. |

Due to his past season this discussion is moot. If Coots is a Selke finalist and always talked about as a Selke quality forward, then Provy would have been in the discussion. He poop the bed this year so it really doesn't matter. He'll bounce back. He'll be a very important part of our progression.
Provy will be fine.
I'm more than happy to sign him to term at much less.
I THINK HIS TEAM WILL ASK FOR MORE... |

Agreed on all. I'm curious what Patrick's value is around the league. Like if they were trading him for a draft pick(s), what's the best they could do? |

Playoffs truly are a different beast. Crazy how a team who hasn't lost 3 in a row all season has now. |

It really is a different game. None of the other major sports put the whistles away for the playoffs like they do in hockey. |

Hopefully you could pull a Drouin for Sergechev kind of deal. |

Idk why you're gonna move Patrick now when the team already has suspect center depth. What are you hoping for in return exactly? |

I don’t think the luster has gone off of him to the point where a team wouldn’t offer a mid to late first for him |

Your Couturier comparison makes zero sense. Couturier played defensively at a Selke level for a number of years before getting recognition. Provorov has not come close to playing at a Norris trophy level to this point. You called an 8 X8 deal a win for the Flyers Its a drastic over payment. |

That would be ideal, but even Drouin was coming off a 53 point season.

He's the reason they have suspect center depth. They need to add another good center regardless of whether he's here or not. |

Agree.
Provy will turn out to be a steady, dependable, first pairing d-man for years to come, but he is not an 8 mil per, not yet. I'd offer him a Dumba-like contract in the 6 mil per range for 5 years.
Ivan's game reminds me of a former Wheat King alumnus Wade Redden during his Ottawa years.

Yeah, if I were a GM, I wouldn't pony up anything close to '2nd-overall' quality for him based on how he's looked and all the #'s. |

I think people forget how young he is. Regardless of how good the return for Schenn was Hextall really kicked the can down the road by throwing a 19 year old out there with Flippula as his backup. To be saying he's the reason they have suspect center depth is absurd. Hextall didn't go out and get a 3C this past off-season plain and simple.
I still think it's too early to be selling Patrick. He's going to be a solid 2C down the road, I don't care where he was drafted. |

I could be wrong, but I did think that would be realistic. He hasn’t shown enough to where I think a team wouldn’t expect at least somewhat of a discount from sticker draft price, but he has been decent enough to make you think his floor is still that of an nhl player with the potential to find his feet and grow into a 60 point second line center. I’ll give you the pens first for him for poops and giggles. |
