Great Goaltending vs Bad Goaltending
- kindlyrick

Ummmm...... I was responding to Upstate who was saying that Tampa like the Pens weren't used to "in your face hockey" or something like that. My comment was just a mild disagreement with his inclusion of the Pens in that statement. Point being, you can't win back-to-back Cups without getting used to "in your face hockey." Not every team employs that approach equally, but there's plenty of that in the playoffs.

I wasn't looking to distinguish this Pens team from the ones that won the Cups....

Love that they are not chirping at all.. know they still have to win the hardest game.. the 4th one. This is a special group... Have every right to talk about the coverage of this team. ... just all being very quiet and going to work. "we over me"

“We’re playing for each other, we trust in each other,” said Tom Kuhnhackl, who was part of Pittsburgh’s 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup wins and has played a big role in making his old team look slow. “They’re a very good team and they can always make something out of nothing. We have to continue taking time and space away, continue to be physical. We do that, we have a pretty good chance.”

Lehner
“We still have a long way to go, but it’s a big part of why we’re having success right now.”

Cal Clutterbuck said. “What Barry has really talked about is the here and now and the coaching staff has done a great job of making sure there’s only the here and now. The expectation is there is no expectation — go out, work hard, do your job and let that carry us where it’s going to carry us. And let’s enjoy it along the way.”

Keeping their mouths shut and not giving anyone any bulletin board material is the smart move. I don't care how ridiculous it sounds, I'm not counting out any team with Crosby/Malkin/Kessel/Letang/etc..., no matter how bad they're playing, until the clock hits zero and the Isles are ahead on the scoreboard.

Good win, yesterday, boyz.

Just wondering what the discussion was about the "coincidental minors" called with 7 minutes left in the game.

How the frank does the referee make that call?

Islander player gets cross-checked, then the Penguin jumps on him and starts wrestling.

But it's a close game, so you know, send them both off.

Frank, I franking hate NHL reffing.

Because i believe at the time the isles were up 3-1 and there’s no way they were giving the isles a PP with 7 min to go in the game. We were laughing that Pelech got called for roughing when he literally did nothing except eat punches.

Agreed it’s never over. Especially not against that Pens roster

It's terrible.

So what's the consensus on how many games nasty naz is gonna get? That was ugly.

I wasn't really online at all over the weekend, so I can't give you an indepth report (with fancy James Tanner stats), but the general consensus is that he won't face the Bruins again.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out the Bruins planned this - just keep poking him until he does something stupid.

I'm going to give Kadri credit - he managed to play about five and a half periods before losing his poop and hurting the Leafs.

C'mon, that's more than a lot of us expected.

It's a shame because it's not like he's just some poopheap goon loser. He can actually play. I don't like him, but he is a good hockey player.

Probably for the best that he misses the rest of this series. Him coming back could just lead to things devolving into a sewer-fest and I'm sure the Leafs don't want to put targets on any of their skill players backs.

It's not ridiculous. The series isn't over yet. So they are doing the right thing by shutting up and staying focused. It is unlikely the Pens will come back and win, but its not impossible.

I thought Fleury played two games in the first series and Murray took over from there and their second cup it was Murray all the way?

Great Goaltending vs Bad Goaltending

Of course goaltending is important, However KR, taking a look at The Islanders defense and specifically Greiss, with a team playing good defense it makes all the difference in the world as far as goaltending.
Are the rebounds cleared, can he see the shots, are the options the puck carrier has limited etc, etc, etc.

I don't think Murray has been outstanding but the team in front of him hasn't been very good at handling the Islanders constant pressure, puck pursuit and forecheck.

Lets face it, if goaltending alone wins stanley cups then the best gaolie in the NHL, Price, should at least have made the PO's right?

Its a team game and everyone playing together gets the job done and that includes goaltending imho.

That was a different team and make up. The pens d is letang and a bunch of 3rd pair guys, dumolin isnt bad but this is a different version of the pens.

Not to distract from what's been an awesome playoffs so far, but Bode Wilde has 6g and 8pts in 10gp and Dobson has 12a and 15pts in 10gp in the playoffs. Wahlstrom's got 2-1-3pts in 5gp in Bridgeport too.

The future is bright, gentlemen

Correct very respectful and humble and that's how you do it. Cant fire the other team up with stupid statements. Part of the reason I love hockey and hate basketball and football with their guarantees, when your wrong you look stupid

Time-honored strategy in playoff hockey. Usually, you're just hoping to get a 2-minute power play. Kadri gave the Bruins a gift with that cross-check to the head.

Yea I think it was pelech that got punched square in the face and the ref put his arm up. Then they wrestle and magically its coincidentals, ref put his arm up for the initial hit so it should have been a minor for roughing on pelech and a double minor on pens player

I'm not even sure Pelech deserved a penalty for really just defending himself when Hornqvist starting hitting him in the head.

Sure, there are some different players on the Pens from 2 seasons ago. But there are lots of guys who are still there who are fully versed in "in your face" hockey.

I thought it was more than that throughout the playoffs but I'm not positive. Either way I recall Fleury playing an almost equal part in it. I'd ask the pens thread but now isnt the time ir is it?

Yea well they aren't handling it well. To be fair Crosby and Kessel have done ok with it Malkin cant handle it at all. Kessel has been their best player as far as creating so far. They may be versed in it js but clearly they aren't handling it well at all, theres no room time or space for them and they have admitted as much

Don't be a jinx. Wait until the series is over before you go on their board, asking questions about their goaltending.
